Ours is 8 wheel drive with a pneumatic kicker.
You can see a video of it here!

FRC418, LASA Robotics (The "Purple Haze") presents PHardos.

http://bit.ly/ah1Rt6
http://bit.ly/bzIwfd

The primary drive system on PHardos is Mecanum, but we've added pneumatically-actuated drop-down center wheels that provide plenty of power when you need it most. Our "ball magnet" is composed of a spinning roller covered with super-grip cloth, and can spin in either direction (can pull balls backwards and also push them forwards for herding multiple balls). Hanger consists of a hook (not on robot in picture) powered by a tape measure (yes, you heard it right, a super incredibly strong tape measure that puts the hook into place) and a winch that pulls the robot to height. The kicker is a pneumatically actuated paddle with elastic-force assist (the elastic provides the kicking power, a pneumatic pulls the elastic and also provides the fire mechanism).

Can't wait to see you all at Dallas!

Team 1421 will be there! We were part of the winning alliance at the Bayou Regional last night! Wow, what an exciting finish for us!

Our bot has fork-lift style steering with a hybrid pneumatic-tygon tubing kicking mechanism. Also, we have excellent ball handling, autonomous scoring and, ramp climbing capabilities.

Can't wait to see you there!

I heard about those matches, congratulations guys! I can't wait to actually see you guys in action in Dallas, but will definitely miss you at Lone Star since I see you're not attending this year (and I'll secretly be glad you're not there, too). ;)

1108 is anxious to head south! Bus departs 5AM wednesday! Our bot, Scherman, is pictured on our website, pantherrobotics.com, and I will ask one of the team to post a pic here tomorrow if I can make it into the shop. We are looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones! Come by the pit if you have a free minute. :) Yes, I know....what IS a free minute??!

*mock horror* 2:30 and they just now passed inspection? Well I hope they're a little more prompt than that at Lone Star. I'm kinda counting on them and a few other vets to breeze through and leave my afternoon open for all the rookies....

Hi Kevin,
Not sure when they passed, actually.

I'm in Austin and won't be making the trip. Every so often, I'll brave contacting them (at the risk of grumbles), to see how they're doing.

We'll do our best for you at Lone Star. :)

Our "fixit" crew reported helping 35 different teams pass inspection. 148 was out in full force today helping some of the more inexperienced Texas teams hit the ground running.

Everyone is looking forward to tomorrow.

Nah, we replaced several systems on our robot (from the 65lb allotment) and got through technical inspection easily in the first try fairly early in the day (it was very simple). We spent most of our time afterwards with bad encryption on our radio (updated with the wrong type of encryption for the event) and we had a lot of trouble connecting with the FMS. After several reboots of our Driver Station PC we got things moving, and we've been working through gremlins in the 65lb allotment parts... can't have our modifications (cake) and use (eat) them (it) too, now can we?!?!

Eh, we expect to have a great Friday no matter what! Of course, our head coach Bertucci is sick as a dog in the hotel room, so we're doing as well as we can with just a code/electronics mentor at the helm (me).

You'll be fine.
Bertucci isn't supposed to get sick until - after - the regional. He's early. :) Rock on 418.

148 is truly a beast! It is amazing to watch it in action, standing right next to the field.

Undefeated today, and I don't see any way to stop them.

We over at 3310 are having a BLAST at regional. Being a rookie team, we've been making all the rookie mistakes (Not checking all our power cords, no mounting the bridge all the way, and forgetting about that stupid autonomous code that comes stock on the robot)

By round 6 we were all fixed up, everything worked, and we showed what we could do. DEFENSE. I don't know how many people actually scout rookie teams, but we're extremely large. Even when we flipped over we were still blocking the other team. With three more rounds to go, we home to show that our incline, and kicker also do as they should and hope to show everyone that we can play some "D".

Come stop bye and say hi tomorrow, were the big wedge shaped robot with the "H" on the hood. We love chatting with veteran teams, and really hope to show that now (Since were all fixed up) we can actually play this game competitively.

GOOD LUCK!

Let me tell ya, you guys have the perfect makings of a second pick.

Not to mention yall's enthusiasm and positive are definitely things that can be helpful on an alliance.

Congratulations, all.

Here is the list of award winners for the Dallas Regional.

Watching the competition from the edge of my seat here at home left a little to be desired, but I was very appreciative of the folks who made us a part of it by hosting the webcast and keeping it up and running. Thank you so much!

Hope everyone gets home safe and sound. To all the 3rd week competitors and participants - well done! Travel safe.

Congrats to 148, 2016, and 1817 on there regional win. An awsome and unstopable alliance.

Thanks Stogi. If we had been one seed higher, we would have picked them. I had already talked to them, but we ended up just behind 456.

We ended up with a great alliance of 704 and 2352. Its hard to stop a beast.

Congratulation to 2016 on an amazing showing

Amazing - bringing home 3 pieces of hardware: Chairman's, Winning Alliance, and Engineering Excellence. You guys really made New Jersey proud. The alliance of 148, 2016, and 1817 complemented one another nicely. I especially liked your far field autonomous. It was simply awesome. The best I've seen to date. Your hang is simply elegant to boot.

Yep - You are going to Atlanta. What's better, I won't have to pay for Tyler's air ticket!

Congrats to all for providing a wonderful tournament.

Thanks, we had so much fun down here. Everyone was so nice. 148 and 1817 were great alliance partners, couldn't have done it without either.

In the finals I had nothing to do out there. 148 and 2016 moved almost all of the balls into the offensive zone in autonomous mode leaving me with nothing to do but watch them score. They had one of the better alliances that I have seen. We still had fun playing y'all in the finals and were excited about going to Houston. GREAT JOB 148 2016 and 1817. :]

Re: Dallas regional 2010

WHEW we are blown away. Rookie All Star? HECK YEAH! We are all still in shock over here at 3310. About match 8, 148 came over and mentioned that they had seen my post about wanting to get noticed. They wanted us to get noticed. They allowed us to use our design to it's fullest potential which earned us a pick for an alliance (Oddly, had we not been picked by 1296 and whomever they were with (Sorry way too much adrenaline to try and remember numbers) 148 would have picked us.)

I'd say Rookie-All-Star, and just the THOUGHT of being useful by a team like 148 gave us a bit of pride and we were able to go home with our heads held high. We could not ask for a better first FIRST event. Thanks to all the other teams for your support and encouragement. You made this special for us.

I'd too like to congratulate 2016. Extremely impressive work, especially on your chairman's award. If you guys don't win chairman's in Atlanta for all you've done, somethings rigged. Your outreach was top-notch and your teams willingness to help others was inspiring. Great job.

That being said, See all of you guys in Atlanta

Re: Dallas regional 2010

welll, for me personally this was one heck of a weekend. I want to start out by thanking everyone in Dallas, the entire regional was very pleasant and relaxed.

I only have to say one thing about one team. In all my years, I have not seen a team like 148, very calm and collected, very respectful to everyone and a lot of fun to play with. I was impressed not only by the presence on the field and in the stands but in every single pit in dallas. I know someone else mentioned this too, seeing you guys have clear off the field was great to see.

Other than that, I am glad to see all the rookie teams and maybe we will try to return next year for another fun year, hopefully it wont be snowing again :)

Thanks all and see you in Atlanta.
-Kinsuk.

Thanks Matt, for all of the compliments. Having nothing for you to do in the finals was exactly what we wanted :). Your scoring ability was formidable and we needed to shut you down. The alliance of 1429, 704, and 2352 was a great and well rounded alliance, y'all did great.

Congratulations on being a Dean's List Finalist, Matt. Your dedication and hard work for not only your team but for the mission of FIRST makes you very deserving of this honor, great job.

We had a great time in Dallas. Thank you to the RPC, judges and volunteers who made this event happen. The robot play was amazing to watch, and the spirit was contagious. We made some new friends and got to see some old, and came home with some wonderful awards. We are especially grateful for Dean being honored with the Woody Flowers. He was a great friend, teacher, mentor and human being. The world is a better place for him having been here to touch so many live, young and old alike. It took us about 23 hours to make it home to Paola, and we were all exhausted, but we had a blast, and look forward to seeing "you all" again! Congrats to the finalists and winners. Thanks to our wonderful alliance partners. And, 1817-keep on dancing!

It wasn't just at the regional. Their spirit was contagious in the webcast chat. One of the moms was doing the wave. It was hysterical. She was also cheering. I think the cheer went something like 20... 16 and then she would repeat. I can't remember what symbol(s) she was using for the wave but I was rolling.

Thank you all again for your kind words, the spirit of our entire team was lifted by visiting dallas, not only due to the awards but more so due to the atmosphere and support you guys provided..

coming from the northeast, I must admit sometimes we forget the small things in life as it moves soo fast here, it was good to slow down for a week, coming back here almost feels like a different pace to me.

Matt, you were a great driver and you guys had an amazing robot, you guys will surely look to do well in Houston. Also congrats on the deans list nomination..

1108 - I wanted to say you guys are a team to model after, all your chairmans award, we saw your pit and were amazed at your consistency and hope to become something like you guys.. Congrats on your WFA!!

like i said earlier there were a lot of strong rookie contenders in dallas and it promises to become a tough regional in years to come.

and again thanks to all you guys for making us feel welcome and at home, away from home.
