Wind River Workbench Not Loading

OK here's a new one for you:

I go to open up Wind River Workbench. The splash screen displays, then after a short time, a blank, gray application window pops up and very quickly disappears. No indication that eclipse, javaw, blah blah blah is running in the background - it's like it launches then immediately terminates.

I've reinstalled the application several times - no luck. This install was working perfectly prior to this issue.

I recall seeing a Wind River Registry icon in my system tray - that is no longer there.

No other applications are affected - the laptop is running fine otherwise. Windows XP.

Any suggestions on how to get rid of this garbage? I've got it running on another laptop, but that is not ideal.

Thanks,

No takers, eh?

Well then, how about this - how do you completely UNINSTALL Wind River Workbench - clean the registry, start from a clean slate? There is no option under Add/Remove programs, nor any other shortcuts that I can see.

I get the feeling that some file or setting is corrupt and needs banished to PC hell before this thing will be fixed....

There should be a directory named 'uninstaller' under c:\WindRiver.
Inside, should be 3 to 5 other directories that contain individual uninstallers (compiler, vxworks, board support, etc.).
You need to run each, in no particular order.

AFAIK, Workbench doesn't infest the registry, so you shouldn't need to worry about that.

Look in c:\Documents and Settings\<your username>.
If there are any files or directories that are obviously Workbench related, delete them.
Look for 'workbench*', 'wr*', etc..

Finally, delete c:\WindRiver.

Note that it is safe to just skip the uninstallers and blow away c:\windriver, but people tend not to believe me when I tell them that.

It works now.

I originally tried deleting the entire windriver directory, but it wouldn't let me trash everything. I had read about the uninstaller directory earlier, but I couldn't find it where the resource told me it would be - a Windows search dug deeper to locate it. I ran those, and just for fun, I then renamed my computer before reinstalling, based on a control system forums post detailing a related Wind River problem. "Dell" was a rather lame name, anyway :).

Back up and running - why they bury the uninstalls so deeply, I'll never understand. Thanks for setting me down the correct path.

Out of curiosity, do you let multiple users (Windows login users) use Workbench on your machine?

As long as there are no Wind River processes running, you should be able to completely delete c:\windriver from the Windows explorer.

If the registry is running, that would probably be a problem.
