Sometimes an alliance captain might want to remain the captain of his (or her) alliance.

Sometimes inviting a team that you know will decline (or suspect) will decline you can still be a calculated and positive move. You also force them not be picked by anyone else, and it is often used to keep "powerhouse" teams apart in the eliminations (therefor increasing your own chances of winning).
