Re: The Year with no Archived Video

I realize that what's transmitted in the webcasts is hardly the raw output that is most desirable, but if there were a way to easily record footage off the webcasts I think the number of regionals being archived would greatly increase. As I'm unable to physically attend any regionals this year, I can't help record in the traditional manner. But if recording off the webcasts is a viable option, then I'd volunteer to help record and parse.

Recording off a webcast is possible but not optimal, you are limited to the quality and glitches of the webcast. All it takes is VLC player. PM me if anyone wants further instructions.

I thought that, too, but the recording stops at about 3.2 GB (roughly six hours on the medium quality setting), so it's probably something else.

If anyone feels like recording six hours of anything so we can be sure...

After discovering this issue last year, what I did was pause during lunch break, which gave us plenty of time (be sure to wait 'till alliance selections on Saturday!).

I have recorded a 10 hour event before with a single file size of ~150GB with no problems using a Newtek Tricaster Pro

Re: The Year with no Archived Video

Code Red did not record anything they streamed. At traverse city the AV crew wouldn't allow anyone else to hook in and record the matches. The AV guy was "afraid to lose signal quality" even though it was only going to 2 separate outputs, to code red's streaming box and the main projector. He recorded on his device which had all the inputs and outputs run through it, I dont know what it was but looks kinda cool.

What is the video quality like off those Pinnacle video transfer units? and the file size in H:264, for example 5 minutes of video on the highest quality settings would be what file size?

I might pick one up this weekend to experiment with, I guess is only has composite input though and no firewire?

mark

Video quality is pretty decent, I'd say as good as it gets with a composite output. The highest quality outputs interlaced video and, in my opinion, is only marginally better than the intermediate setting - and because of that, medium quality is what I use for all my recordings.

As for size, this week I recorded one hour and forty five minutes of a Brazil vs. Netherlands match in the '74 World Cup and the file came out slightly smaller than 1 GB. :)

Thanks for that link. Now I see exactly when a ball went over the red alliance wall without hitting the ball return counter, just after when George (the announcer) says "just over a minute left".

THAT's why we got 14 points in penalties...:(

Based on that file size I think I might just pick up one of these Pinnacle devices this weekend and experiment with it and see what it can do, too bad it doesn't take firewire input as well.

I'm responsible for running video production at the WPI regional. I'm logging the program output to raw DV, so the footage for the entire event will likely total ~350 GB. I don't have the time to cut it up, and at that size, it's impractical to upload to an FTP server, but I'd gladly pass off a copy to someone willing to make the trek to Worcester. Just shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Is there any word of NJ footage yet? And anything about the awards?

So there was no video feed at Pittsburgh, likely due to it being a 2-day budget regional so I wasn't able to record it. I am trying to get the raw UStream feed from the folks who ran the webcast.

Here's a better quality version of NJ Final Match 2, taken from a different angle:
