The Year with no Archived Video

http://www.firstwiki.net/index.php/2010_Archiving

Three events currently have folks recording them.

I have only heard from a single group about Week 1 Regional recorded video.

At this rate, Breakaway will be the least-recorded FIRST game ever. :ahh:

Re: The Year with no Archived Video

I will gladly volunteer to parse recorded video again this year, especially Week 2 events as I am on Spring Break, but someone has to record them first!

Also, 2175 is working on tracking down a second capture device to record 10k Lakes as well so that should be 4 events.

What it means is that no one has posted on CD or FIRSTWiki that they were planning on recording GSR. It doesn't necessarily mean nobody did record it.

The only regional I have been contacted about is SDC. If anyone knows of GSR video we'll gladly host it, but it may not exist.

Does anyone know how to contact the Bellarmine Prep Robotics Alumni Association to ask for permission to use their video of the Oregon regional?

I've contacted MOREnet about their Kansas City video.

Thanks all!

Due to "technical difficulties" aka they forgot the av splitter multiplier amplifier to allow connection to the video feed I did not get to record the traverse city district competition. The guy running the video equipment promises it will be on ftp location this week.

I can get on Kansas City and have it all parsed if they say "yes".

I hope to be shooting for the local news the Waterloo regional and the GTR regional but once the stuff for the news is shot I can shoot a fair bit of b-rolll of everything from the pits to the stands to some of the action on the field as I have done in previous years and have it for those who want it, last year I used team 781's FTP server to upload the files.

It's not every match but it's something at least........

I haven't really figured out what I am doing this year yet but then again in news I think we figure everything out in five minutes to deadline and just do it :)

I'll be recording Pittsburg and GTR this year, I may be able to record Saturday of Waterloo also. Sorry I haven't been able to push for more recordings like previous years, helping to run a team while in 3rd year of my Mechanical Engineering degree can keep one busy... Hopefully someone can step up and help organize the recording/parsing efforts.

I may be able to hook up one of those pinnacle devices and a external drive for the whole thing as well if needed to record the production company feed, I am not sure how all that works as I've never used that equipment but I'm sure I can figure it out, when I am shooting with my news camera I don't record every match, I look for action shots all over the place as I wander around in the pits, stands and field and just shoot on and off and of course a lot of the cheering and stuff that goes on in the stands.

I'm assuming with the pinnacle device you take in composite video and mic level audio and connect a 1TB hard drive and it just records it all as one file if you leave it running all day?

I've never really played with that stuff so I don't know, I'm also assuming AC power is needed?

I know our film crew recorded a lot of footage ( unfortunately mostly our matches ).

However I am not sure they are allowed to release it as the footage is owned by the University and the are in the process of selling it to the ABC (Australian Broadcasting Corporation). I'll talk to them about trying to release it.

Thanks,

Yes, AC power is needed (and supplied on the AV table) for the Pinnacle Video Transfer.

You have to be careful, though, in leaving it unattended (see that happened to us last year) as there's a limit on how big (or long, or something else, I don't know) the file can be.

It's probably hitting the 4GB file size cap of FAT32 formatted disks. Just make sure to stop and restart it (although I can't tell you how often).

I will be able to record everyday at Waterloo with my pinnacle video transfer and a 500GB hard drive. Also the PVT should only record up to 4GB on a FAT32 disk or up to 1GB on a FAT16 disk, once these limits are reached the device should create a new file and it will keep recording

I thought that, too, but the recording stops at about 3.2 GB (roughly six hours on the medium quality setting), so it's probably something else.

If anyone feels like recording six hours of anything so we can be sure...

After discovering this issue last year, what I did was pause during lunch break, which gave us plenty of time (be sure to wait 'till alliance selections on Saturday!).

I recorded raw video (no compression applied) for most of the D.C. regionals, but probably won't have time to chop it up for several weeks (in case anyone's interested). It's in 2 gig pieces (10 minutes each, I forgot to switch from FAT32 to something better), and totals something like 150GB - if anyone's interested in a compressed version, I could send it to them.

I plan to do the same thing at N.C.

I realize that what's transmitted in the webcasts is hardly the raw output that is most desirable, but if there were a way to easily record footage off the webcasts I think the number of regionals being archived would greatly increase. As I'm unable to physically attend any regionals this year, I can't help record in the traditional manner. But if recording off the webcasts is a viable option, then I'd volunteer to help record and parse.

Recording off a webcast is possible but not optimal, you are limited to the quality and glitches of the webcast. All it takes is VLC player. PM me if anyone wants further instructions.

Code Red did not record anything they streamed. At traverse city the AV crew wouldn't allow anyone else to hook in and record the matches. The AV guy was "afraid to lose signal quality" even though it was only going to 2 separate outputs, to code red's streaming box and the main projector. He recorded on his device which had all the inputs and outputs run through it, I dont know what it was but looks kinda cool.

Video quality is pretty decent, I'd say as good as it gets with a composite output. The highest quality outputs interlaced video and, in my opinion, is only marginally better than the intermediate setting - and because of that, medium quality is what I use for all my recordings.

As for size, this week I recorded one hour and forty five minutes of a Brazil vs. Netherlands match in the '74 World Cup and the file came out slightly smaller than 1 GB. :)

Thanks for that link. Now I see exactly when a ball went over the red alliance wall without hitting the ball return counter, just after when George (the announcer) says "just over a minute left".

THAT's why we got 14 points in penalties...:(

Based on that file size I think I might just pick up one of these Pinnacle devices this weekend and experiment with it and see what it can do, too bad it doesn't take firewire input as well.

I'm responsible for running video production at the WPI regional. I'm logging the program output to raw DV, so the footage for the entire event will likely total ~350 GB. I don't have the time to cut it up, and at that size, it's impractical to upload to an FTP server, but I'd gladly pass off a copy to someone willing to make the trek to Worcester. Just shoot me a PM if you're interested.

Tell them you are recording to put the video on the blue alliance online for everyone to view. This helped me in westmichigan when they thought I was just doing it for myself.

Speaking of which I should have westmichigan online in another couple days.

I was told the same thing, not in the budget this year apparently, not even an audio pool feed and same might be the case at GTR.

My advice then to those filming from the stands is use a tripod no matter what and if you have a directional mic on some kind of pivoting mount so that it stays pointed at the speakers hanging from the ceiling and that should help a bit with the audio.

I miss the audio feed, I always plugged into it and set it to channel two in my camera/headset and had it up loud just so I could enjoy the music while I was there for the day extra loud.

If they get the webcast working tomorrow we will have a recording of that, not perfect but it worked for Pittsburgh. I'm not sure what the deal will be for GTR, but my team is running the webcast and I will have a second AV feed for a recording.

I should have specified that I meant download the webcast. Some of the MI districts are recorded and available for streaming on Ustream, but they're not worth much unless we can download the videos and cut them up. I suppose I could use a screen-capture program to download them that way, but the quality is so crappy that I'm not sure it's worth it.

Just contact the team who did the Ustream broadcast, they will have access to download them. I'm sure they will send them to you.

As posted elsewhere, mostly-complete ROC: http://normandy.hopto.org/videos/2010/roc/

I think these have been all- or mostly-posted on TBA, but re-sampled at a lower resolution.

Wisconsin Regional is up on TBA now.

Good timing, I got to show my little cousin our quarterfinals matches. :)

Can anyone help?

A student on 1676 has raw match footage from Virginia on disk, but just won't ever find the time to parse it. There are 3 or 4 matches missing (when the tapes ran out) but it's mostly complete. Taken from a good spot in the stands, only rarely is the field obscured by an errant spectator.

Does anyone have somewhere we can upload the raw video, thus allowing someone to parse it? As expected, it is several tens of GB. Upload bandwidth is not a problem.

I know team 2337 will be working to supply TBA with our matches (if not all of the matches, were working on it) on our field from Nationals. We also supplied all but 3 of our matches from the State competition.

*explosion of happiness*

Please tell me you have Qualification 95 on tape. That would be awesome! An unfortunate repercussion of being the trident operator is that you have a wall of people between you and the field and can't really see when your robot does something awesome like driving up Kilroy's ramp.

I was talking with CTFIRST. 230 was filming the entire event. Remember how they got those instant replays? If anyone knows the best person to contact on that team, that'd be where I'd start.

I recorded the entire CT regional, but it'll take me some time to get all the matches parsed. If anyone can help, we might be able to do it a little faster. :)

Can you get the un-parsed matches online? I can send you FTP information if you need space to put them so others can get at them. The community has been great about splitting video from other events.

PM me if you want FTP info :)

No idea, but I can't imagine why we wouldn't. The only matches n=missing are those unfortunate to land when the tape needed to be replaced.

I see that at least one file has been FTP'd to TBA; I believe there would be a few of these, since this one is only 4GB and I was led to believe the whole set was a few tens of GB. In HD, by the way ... :)

I *might* be able to stream/record the NYC Regional, although I don't think I have the proper equipment...

Were you able to get anything? :D
