3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
Today at WPI Team 230 scored 3 in autonomous in a single match... we were so excited I thought I would lose my voice screaming. :ahh: We are wondering if this has happened at any other regionals yet?

Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
I believe 1114 did it at least once in Pittsburgh today.....

Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
We are pretty good at 3 in autonomous, but so far we haven't made them all in, and have not seen it done. Congrats to 230! Must be an awesome kicker. Hopefully we will join your club at our next event.

Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
Team 67 did that once at Kettering, in quarterfinals 1 match 2. Usually we get pretty close every match, and we're working on improving our accuracy for Wayne State.

We've had a decent amount of scoring in auto at the event, I love it. Though the one team to get 3 is the obvious king of the hill... |
Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
Team 319 got all in one match I believe as well as 1114. I can't wait until we get back to work with our practice bot to adjust so all 5 balls we hit go in instead of the 2 we have now!
Congratulations team 230! |
Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
Team 39 Scored 3 in autonomous from the far zone.
AZ regional qualification match 80. Since that match we consistently got all the ball either score or in the near zone ready for scoring in teleop. We are excited to repeat this multiple times for Vegas |
Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
1114 has done it, but there are many others who have the potential, but just need to tweak a little bit.

Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
I am proud to say 217 got a triple in auton as well during elims at Cass Tech today. Even when we don't score them all, they at least end up in the home zone for easy teleop points.

Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
I personally think the chains in the goals make it harder to score, rather then help keep balls in.
Then again, I just wish our autonomous mode worked haha!! |
Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
we've gotten close, far as i know we have gotten 2 in before we charge the bump and try to kick the 2 in the mid zone as well, usually we get at least one of them, nailing it into zone 1 , precision isn't our strong suit all the time though. we go more for a shotgun, point it the right direction and it does what you want

Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
Team 1114 can actually attempt to score five balls in autonomous.
I was amazed at just how close they get to scoring them all. That programmer gets breakfast, lunch and dinner. -Nick |
Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
Saw three at least twice at Chesapeake!

Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
I was very impressed with Gaelhawks at the Suffield Shakedown. Right off the bat they honed their auto shooting skills. I knew then that they were a threat to any competition. Congrats to WPI win. They will do well in Atlanta.

I guess it's a good demonstration of the GDC's desire to make a function difficult yet doable. |
Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
Our Team, Team 20 got the second seed at WPI behind 230 and we teamed up for the finals. 230's auto was great, and they would at the very least clear 2 balls into the offensive zone and 1 ball into the mid field with 6 seconds or so to spare. The majority of the time they would score 1 or 2 and the others would be in the offensive zone to start teleop. After teaming up, we were able to put up a couple of 9s and 8s and our robots were extremely compatible, because 230 would go right over the bump into the midfield after auto and clear 2 or 3 balls and we would have 8 balls in the offensive zone/scored after about 30 seconds of teleop. With our robot proficiently scoring by out maneuvering others, controlling the ball well, and even shooting OVER other robots (6 for 6 @ WPI), we were able to form a dominant alliance along with 228 and take home the gold. Their auto did exactly as it should by consistently putting their alliance in the best possible position to dominate the teleop, and even scoring in the process. They also tackled one of the issues we saw with hanging by designing a consistent yet durable method of hanging. Other robots were falling and breaking as they attempted their end game but 230 was able to hoist themselves up without risking breaking. When we saw their autonomous our reaction was "wouldnt it be great to align with them?" Congratulations to 230 on a great design, especially your autonomous and end game! It was great to work with you guys and we will be seeing you in Atlanta!

Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
We were also at WPI, our autonomous wasnt that great but we were more defensive. Congratz to 230. Your robot blew everyone's head off.

I wish that we would see more robots who are good at herding the balls into the goal. Its one of the fastest ways to score when the balls are there. Push balls into wall drive robot at slight angle into the wall then score most of the balls. Its hard to herd a single ball though without a grabber/rollers, the outer edge always seems to make the balls get caught. |
Re: 3 scored in Autonomous by a single bot!!!
Thanks really need to go to Teams 20 and 228. All 3 teams worked their jobs and covered the other 2 when issues arose. I can't remember seeing 3 teams more effectively work together.
Without you guys we would not be scrambling to figure out how to get to Atlanta. Anyone want to share a bus? Steve. |

I also just wanted to mention in response to comments on our autonomous that our student programmers are all rookies, meaning that this time last year none of them had written a single line of code, ever! :ahh: So I want to give to kudos to those kids who picked up the task and ran with it... we are very proud of them! |
