I'm going to run through the update process tonight, possibly tomorrow. That means they'll be a database lockout.

FIRSTwiki will be read-only until the update is finished.

Already taken care of. Brandon says he'll deal with PHP and back-end software in a few weeks. After that, I can actually update MediaWiki.
