hard reset for classmate
 

Hi,
Apparently our classmate has a damaged WPI library. What should we do? Will getting it back to manufacturer settings (using the USB flash memory supplied with the classmate) do the trick?
If so, can anyone brief me on how we should do it?

So I just copy this exe to anywhere on the classmate and run it?
Should I backup anything before I do it?

a rule of thumb seems to be to back up anything that you don't want to loose, though i doubt that the wpi lib install would cause issues, still it can't hurt to have backups

Note that the link posted above is for C++, if you are using Labview it will not do anything for your WPILib problems.

You can always restore from the image provided in the KoP on a flashdrive.

Probably the single biggest thing I don't like about the Classmate: no optical drive. You lose that flash drive, you're pretty much hosed. And if they'd added a DVD-ROM drive, they'd have had enough room for a larger keyboard and touchpad, too.

Also...

[off topic] How much are you allowed to do to the Classmate, hardware/software-wise? Any chance of adding memory? (I'm assuming the processor is hardwired directly to the board, what with it being that ****ed small...)[/off topic]

Sorry but I might need help to restore the classmate pc second generation but I have no KOP USB restore one. Is there a way for me to get it or is it possible to download the files somewhere?

I would start by checking the date of the last post before necroing a 9-month old thread.

That said, do you have access to an external DVD drive and a Windows XP (Home, I think...) Edition disk?

Out of curiousity, I checked the FAQ on forum usage but couldn't find any etiquette relating to this issue. Is it generally considered appropriate and acceptable to post an on-topic new query to a dormant (but open) thread (as fimhk did), or is it preferred to start a brand new thread covering basically the same topic (as MishraArtificer seems to be suggesting).

Perhaps the CD forum-master, or some charter members, could give some authoritative advice on this.

It depends on the forum and the age of the thread. Different forums have different rules regarding it. Most of the forums that I visit frown on replying to a thread over (usually) three months old, especially if it hasn't been visited or posted in since then. One even locks threads over six months old, unless the original poster wants to update the thread with new information (in which case, they have to send a request to the forum admins).

WITH THAT BEING SAID, I suppose it could be okay on this one, as it may be saving valuable database space for something more complex...like calculations on the likelihood of a water game...
