Detroit District 2010
Who is excited? :D
|
Re: Detroit District 2010
Hoping that we dont have the communications issue that plagued us the entire time at Traverse City. From there we just have to work out all of the bugs or see what we can do this week in our 6 hours of practice! What I am looking forward to the most is see how far we can actually kick it in a match. My guess is we might be able to kick from wall to wall in the air if we really try.
Good Luck to all other teams! |

And if you can kick that far, I would say you would make a pretty good alliance partner! |
Re: Detroit District 2010
548 is Excited! And I'm looking forward to seeing the Feds (who I have been able to penalize already this year :yikes: ) and the Armadillos (who not only have I not seen this year but the fire ants who eat baby armadillos have run them out of Texas so I don't even get to see real ones anymore :-( ).
Look for the hat in the queing line (since I am not reffing this one) and I will try to get you a prime position to rest through the field faults! :yikes: |
Re: Detroit District 2010
This event list looks similar to the one I saw at Kettering. Hopefully its just as exciting. I just want to make one request. Teams stop shooting soccer balls at my face!! :p

Re: Detroit District 2010
I'm pumped! Hopefully our robot will be operational too, unlike at Traverse City. The drivetrain bugs should all be fixed now, and we were swerving happily around the shop last night. I'm really looking forward to seeing if we'll actually have an opportunity to hang during a match :P
As always, I'll be around somewhere if you look hard enough, so please come find me if you get the chance! Shortish dark brown french braids, bright yellow bandanna covering them, bright yellow eyeshadow, and an aluminum tetris T-block dangling from my neck (you get a physical description, you see, because I tend to be everywhere at once during competitions...try the pit first). Good luck everyone! |

Although it doesn't really matter, what I really find interesting is that out of the 10 lowest numbered teams that attended Kettering, 7 of them are going to Detroit. Another thing is the lack of teams in the 2000's that are attending Detroit as compared to Kettering. Just a few things that I noticed while looking at both team lists side to side. |

Re: Detroit District 2010
Without getting into to much details we tried a lot of things up at Traverse City (including loaned radios and more), there are some other threads that discussed if full. The programming guys think it might be the USB power issue so getting something together for that. We will be down there Thursday from 4-10 so plenty of time to test.
Thanks for the input guys. Feel free to stop on by and check us out, hopefully fully working. Cant wait, should be a great competitive event! |

Re: Detroit District 2010
Today was a great day.
I want to give a special thanks from team 2620 to team 51 (The new Chief Delphi team) On match 46 they broke our loosing streak of like 4. It was ridiculous. We were in 2nd place for a while then dropped, and dropped and dropped to like 14th place, our last match brought us to 8th. Then the final matches after that brought us to 10th. Havnt checked since we left today. I think tomorrow will decide it. We need to get our timing right for the autonomous in the zone with 3 balls then our bot will be pretty amazing. I made 6 points today and i didnt touch the field >.< Autonomous is awesome ;D Anyways, so those teams that are there, youll see us on the practice field in the morning probably working out our timing. EDIT:: Also, team 51 members, where did you guys get another cRio from? o.0 you went threw 2 today didnt you? Frying 2 i mean. Or just 1? And thats odd, i havnt heaerd of people drying there cRio unless it was wired incorrectly. The power that is. |

(BTW: we got the loners from spare parts or pit admin. I'm not sure which. Our young guns did a good job of tracking down the spares - and fixing the robot. I'm really proud of our students today. They worked amazingly, especially considering the pressure. I hate that we missed a match, but I KNOW that the students that were involved in the fix learned a lot of great lessons that this competition can teach.) Good luck to you guys tomorrow. We'll see you around. |
Re: Detroit District 2010
We also got a spare CRio from the spare parts guys. Usually you just have to sign your life away if you want to get one to make sure you return it, but they only have so many.
Also pumped that we have been working. Had a 40 foot bomb of a kick at one point. Kept it toned down for the most part because there is no need to kick it that far. Who know maybe at some point ... |

Re: Detroit District 2010
To quote another mentor "Holy Red Card, Batman!" I counted 7 red cards today. 5 of which were in the eliminations.
But more importantly the teams were playing some real competitive Breakaway! |
Re: Detroit District 2010
There is no GM Industrial Design Award winner at http://www2.usfirst.org/2010comp/events/DT/awards.html, does anyone know who won?
|
Re: Detroit District 2010
I'd venture to guess 67 won that award The Autodesk awards aren't given out at districts, I think the two got flipped.

Congratulations 67, 51, and 1023, and also to finalists 27, 201, and 1! Also, congratulations to Chairman's recipient 27! Oh, and Rookie All-Star/Highest Rookie Seed winner 3175 (I'm proud of you, Knight Vision!)! I had an ongoing "teams that are awesome" list going in my pit so that I would remember to thank all of them for the help (in advice, physical objects, spirit, and any other kind of help) that we received over the course of the event, but I didn't add anyone for today (I forgot :/) So from Thursday and Friday, I've got 201, 247, 3096, 3175, 1025, 313, 67 and 2851. Thank you all so much [: Is there a list of the Woodie Flowers and Dean's List nominees floating around anywhere? "Hey Detroittttttt..." |

Re: Detroit District 2010
This event was a blast. Our team had a lot of fun and were glad 123 and 1528 picked us for a partner. We put up a good fight in the elimination rounds, but facing 67, 51, and 1023 in the semis was hard. It was a lot of fun to watch that finals. Hoping that finish was enough to get us to States. Also thanks team 548 for the Most Kickin' Robot award.
Just glad we figured out all of our issues and even got an autonomous going. It was fun to blast the balls across the entire field a couple of times. After this event cant wait to see States! |

Re: Detroit District 2010
I was watching some of the webcast and thought there was a bot that had an active mechanism. I'm sorry i don't know the number but the top was yellow i think and it looked like a diving board that just keep bouncing up and down. I was hoping someone could clarify how that was legal. Could it be that the bounce was only 3 inches? Just saw a picture of bot -2834-in detroit news.

And I'm pretty sure it was only 3 inches after looking at it closely at the competitions. |

1) We would lose comm from the autonomous to tele switch. We finally just tried a clean code that we knew worked and it seemed to clear it up. I believe there was just some underlying thing in out LabView code that was off and causing errors. 2) Randomly lose comm during a match. We did not hook the receiver to a regulated 12 volt source. Once and a while we might drop below 12 volts, then we would instantly lose comm and not be able to get it back. I believe it was mostly problem 1 we had at Traverse City. Then the few times we would drive I think problem 2 would sometimes take effect and stop us during the match. Sorry, was on a time constraint and couldnt type it in the last post. |
Re: Detroit District 2010
Bit of a thread resurrection... but this was my first district ever and apparently it made quite an impression:
I was driving in Myrtle Beach this weekend and saw a sign that brought back some good memories. I just had to snap a pic! (I did not, however, stop in for a bite to eat, sorry Adam.) ![]() Everyone knew this sounded like a great name for a restaurant... |
