Our strategy was to break the cycle and outscore them. We wanted 469 in the tunnel. If we would have stopped scoring, to block them from the tunnel, they would have outscored us outside the tunnel anyway.

As the alliances were being introduced for the QF's, I made this observation: The alliance of 2337, 226 and 2619 would be a good #1 alliance in any other regional in the country. They were the #8 alliance at MSC. That shows the depth of the MI teams.

That's exactly what happened. We were worried 1918 would score more seeding point in their matches than we would, so we were trying to get any many as possible in each match.

The alliance we were playing, switched from playing against us to playing with us during the match. The score was 10-0, when we decided to send 1188 over to score for the other alliance. We then started playing for additional seeding points also. I got too focused on scoring one ball, and told the drivers to chase after it (completely forgetting that 1188 was in there)...

I keep saying we will not focus on seeding points during a match, but it never seems to work. We will no longer worry about scoring for the other alliance, because it usually leads to bad things.

Anyone happen to know if any videos have been posted of the finals, or the eliminations in general? I was not able to watch them live, either in person or online and really want to see the awesome action. It sounds like 67 and 217 found some good ways to play against 469.

Congrats to all teams there and I hope some Michigan teams can bring a part of the World Championship back this great state!

Wow, what a year for FIRST in Michigan. Personally I saw another awesome years demonstrating what FIRST is all about. Ann Arbor District, Detroit District, Troy District and Michigan Championships. Awesome events, awesome volunteers, awesome teams, great people young and young at heart. But the attached pic tops it.

Four hours after squeaking out a win at the MI Championships and proving yet again they are a serious contender for Einstein, here's 469 team members showing true dedication to FIRST during the field teardown, literally climbing into an overloaded dumpster to properly dispose of the practice field carpet.

Huge thanks to all the teams that helped with the field set up, reset and teardown this year. I met a ton of fantastic and fun people we couldn't have FIRST in Michigan without you.

Thanks,

Ben

469 is the best team this year. Not one-on-one, not by themselves, but as an alliance, the best.
They just proved that with any great team as their striker, they are the alliance to beat.

I cant believe how many great teams all at once are from Michigan this year.

Coopertition will definitely be the key in being the #1 seeded team in Atlanta, vying for the 469 sweepstakes.

Congrats to all.

Michigan State Championships were amazing. The finals matches were very intense, we had a great alliance. Thank you 469, for recycling all the balls we scored, that was a great system we had there ;) thanks to 2834 for being our near zone striker, you did great. We have the potential to make it to Einstein for sure :D

We were the Finalists last year, and now came out on top! Good Job to ALL Michigan teams, it was great playing with you. See you in Atlanta!

Ben, that isn't them helping tear down the field. That is Dan punishing them for every ball they missed in the loop. /sarcasm

No seriously, I cannot adequately express how nice it was to be able to share 469's practice space this year and how amazingly cool it was to be next to them in the pits. You guys have a target the size of a small country on you right now. Look out in Atlanta.

To all the teams going to Atlanta, represent us well. Last year the All Michigan alliance lost. Let's have them win this time okay?

Special thank you to team 2771 for picking us (oh, and that little thing about web casting the event). It was nice working with you guys. 1711, it was fun to play with you guys again here.

To the volunteers, thanks. Special thanks to Mr. Mike Martus for taking the time to give me a glimpse inside how 51 is organized. I really do appreciate it.

MSC was a ton of fun, I met a ton of people and learned a ton more.

The elimination matches were some amazing matches. I hope we convinced visitors who came to watch that robotics competition can be truly exicting and fun.

Thank you 1918 and 469 for picking us. This whole weekend, our robot has been trouble free unlike Kettering and Detroit. We understand what the Maytag repairman feels like now. We had nothing to do between matches. We scored 6-8 balls on average each match but lost most of our matches due to a series of unfortunate events. We ended up ranking very low. Probably for that reason, all other alliance captains did not want to pick us. You guys saw what we can do and we really appreciate your faith in us.

I think we did okay in the finals sweeping up most of the missed balls that 217blocked. We did slow down 217 to allow 469 to cycle some balls in. One thing I have to say is that I am truly humbled by 217's robot. Do not try to get into a pushing match with them head on. Our center of gravity is very low and below the bumper. We weigh 119.5 lb with traction wheels in the front. 217 completely flipped us upside down with one push.

You guys did a great job. yea, 217 is pretty tough but you guys kept them working at it! Great team work!

I can see teams like 148 and 1114 getting to Einstein...but no way without one of the Michigan teams there. Last year we saw a 3 Michigan alliance go up against an Indiana, Cali, and...Michigan.

I guess some Indiana team misplaced last year's Einstein trophy since it's sitting on a shelf in our shop in Illinois

It was fun to watch the MI webcast this weekend. It's amazing how much more exciting the matches are as the quality of play increases. Unfortunately most of the country will never get to see Breakaway played at such a high level.

Thanks for the picture Ben. It says more than a thousand words. It also captures Dan's and team's commitment to FIRST and the program far and above the robot competition. Every time I have helped setup a field, I believe Dan has been there. (Along with his claim to fame of helping Mike Martus show us how to bag a robot in the MI rules! :D )

My hat is tipped to Las Guerrillas!
