Would anyone here be able to tell me if it is acceptable (i.e. will people get mad) to ask someone out to prom over the pa system? (assuming the pit announcer allows me to, of course)

If anyone from my team is reading this, shhh, it's a secret!

It's probably more than acceptable! The hard part is ensuring said person will hear it. Maybe assign them to listening to the PA system for announcements a few minutes before.

I once asked for a proton torpedo. Actually, my team didn't even know it had been a joke, because they were looking for one when I got back to the pit. :D

We always wear our school's uniform skirt to competition and loan extras out to whomever wants to wear one (surprisingly many boys). Never would you think we have a hard time getting them back.

This isn't exactly the same, but our team used to have a list of things needed for the electrical sub team. Here are some examples:

Flux Capacitor
Wookie Fur
Hidden Blade
Lightsaber Crystals
Dark Matter

Note this was my rookie year, and I had little knowledge about pneumatics other than how to acctually spell pneumatics. Anyways, one of my old team mentors told me to hurry up and run the the announcer and ask them to ask other teams if they had pneumatic fluid. Freaking out because there was not much time before out next match i begged the announcer. They gave me the weirdest look and I asked again telling them that we needed it. (This is not a joke at all) My mentor started yelling at me to hurry up and get it, totally playing it off. I come back, almost in tears and he and my mom are laughing..... And then I put 2-and-2 together.. :)
