Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system
Team XXXX has lost a 5 feet wireless cable. If anyone had found it please give it back to team XXXX
Also a great dumb rookie test- When you tell them to arrange everything, tell one of the to put tall the wireless cables in the box |
Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system
(WPI Regional Joke) Team XXXX, XXXX, and XXXX Seems to have misplaced their Friday. If you could find their Friday, please return it to them.
The area around WPI got SLAMMED by a pretty big storm; any team that wasn't within a mile of the venue was either stuck or too scared to try to make it. For my team, all 3 students on the drive team were stuck in their driveway!!!! :ahh: |
Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system
our team asked for:

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system
Last year (Rebound Rumble) at either the Chesapeake or DC regional, one team asked for a hacksaw. The PA announcer turned it into a chainsaw. E V E R Y B O D Y in the pits looked at each other. Teams asked each other if they heard that correctly. Then about 2 minutes later they said, "Sorry, hacksaw. HACK. SAW." And then everybody laughed.
Blair Robot Project dresses up as various characters from the Mario series. One team decided to ask for "Power Stars for the Blair Robot Project" |

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system
Stupid Freshmen test: go get me a semiautomatic wrench/drill.
Haven't tried it yet but it seems like some people will fall for it. :D Also i want to, at least once, when another team comes to our pits asking if we need help to say 'can you help me find my sanity?' I feel like it will confuse people. Also is it to much to ask for my sanity? :P |
Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system
At SBPLI this year, we asked for a Self Priming Jiggler Pump. Also team 270, Deer Park (who very unfortunately folded after 2012), requested a team and a robot. I hope so badly that they get it. We tried for a Self Priming Jiggler Pump at NYC earlier this year, but we never got it announced. However, at SBPLI we had success at last!

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system
I was talking to somebody in Pit Admin this weekend, and she said a freshman had been told to ask for a wireless PWM. (The joke was on the freshman, not Pit Admin.)

Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system
As the pit announcer at Finger Lakes for the last 3 years, myself and our pit admin team have developed great relationships with the "Rochester Regulars". I always love to have students come up to me to try to have different things announced. If you're smart enough to get one by us Kudos to you. Everyone needs a little laugh. With that said, I had a student ask me to page a Mr. Chin, Mr. Chin Chilla.
If you plan to goof around with the Pit Admin table just make sure you have a good relationship with them, there are definitely some pit admins who are more willing than others to have a little fun. |
Re: Funny things to ask for on the PA system
Here's one to try on an unsuspecting freshman:
Have them announce that your team is looking for some F.O.D. (pronounced "fod"). First team that responds that they have some gets the freshman sent over with a broom or vacuum to collect it--and deposit it into the nearest trash can. Foreign Object and Debris is the aerospace industry's Enemy #1. If you've been drilling, sawing, or otherwise working on the robot, chances are, you have some on the floor. |

If you've been drilling, sawing, or otherwise working on the robot, you have been involved in a DGO -- a "Debris Generating Operation" and thus you are the aerospace industry's Enemy #1 (at least according to my Clean Room cert refresher training) |
