Yesterday, an 1197 alumnus went up to the PA and asked for a hot glue gun.

I thought he was kidding. Turns out our mascot needed a hot glue gun. Her costume fell apart.

:/

Not to kill everyone's fun, but is this really something that's all well and good, tricking the Pit Admin? I mean, these are funny, but you're pranking a volunteer.

I know if anyone on 2791 pulls this, they'll get a stern talking to.

Chris, I think it's more about easing the stress in the pits. You know as well as I do that being in there can be pretty stressful for everyone involved. A joke announcement like one of these can ease that a bit, provided that it's made at the right time.

Also, often the pit announcers get the joke, and then pass it on to everyone else. It can get pretty monotonous sitting there all day doing nothing but announce "Teams X, Y, Z, A, B, C, you need to report to queueing immediately!" all day. Something like this, if you get the right type of announcer, can break that up for a little bit. Think of it not as pranking the pit announcers, but as enlisting their help in spreading a joke. They don't have to give it if they don't want to.

There was a few, someone asked for a left handed crescent wrench, our freshman asked for prop wash multiple times(prop wash is basically air)

My personal favorite was at GSR:

"Team 1058 is looking for some PVC cement."

This was something one of our team members asked for at the CT Regional. This was a few years back, when we were using the old control system.

"Team 178 is looking for a hot chicklet."

I completely agree. A funny pit announcement can help ease the stress of a long and tiring day. And ultimately, the announcer makes the call on whether or not to actually say your message.

My favourite one is one my team is guilty of.

"Team 1503 would like to borrow an 18" left handed metric adjustable wrench."

Few, if any, are really that clueless. But they play along.

Prop wash is actually the term for the turbulent eddies of air created as a propeller moves through it. Flying through heavy prop wash (turbulent air) can get bumpy or, if the prop was big enough (and you're close & small enough) downright dangerous - like 'flip that little Cessna over' dangerous.

Pit admin usually loves this type of stuff, they always play along when we ask stuff.

A 60" Chrome Plated Pipe Wrench.

Specifically doing it at the Waterloo Regional makes this about 5x better, at least for the UW Eng volunteers.

Thanks for clearing it up everyone :)

Has anyone ever asked for Pit Admin to help them find Team 46?

That was hilarious. For everyone that doesn't know, 1058 is the PVC Pirates.
