I'd say we consistently score 1 out of 4. Our best so far is 3 out of 5. Alot of times the shots are on track, but they bounce off the chains. Too me it is more important to kick the balls than it is to score them. Although, its really exciting when they do score. |

I can agree with the chain issues; it seems that they are the reason a team doesn't score all of their balls in auto (us included!). And it's definitely more important to get the balls into your zone. Sure, a few points are nice, but with the balls in your zone it allows for two things: 1. Your balls are out of your opponent's home zone 2. The balls are in your home zone, so you can easily score them. |
Re: Best 2010 Autonomous
1261, 343, and 2815 made 4 in finals at Palmetto.
We(1261) would consistently make 1, and 2815 would consistently make one. The points went between 2-4 depending on how our shots/343's shots went. But regardless, the autonomous buffer was still extremely comforting when entering teleop. |
Re: Best 2010 Autonomous
We have ours set up for 2 different sets, our slow setting(3-ball) kicks only the far 3, our Fast setting(5-ball) kicks the far three and middle 2
our slow setting scores 1 everytime, 2 50% of the time and we have scored 3 in a couple matches our fast setting kicks all 5 85% of the time and always scores 1-2, scores 3 about 30% of the time and we scored 4 balls in 1 match and the 5th ball was kicked into the front zone (all these scores are from our robot alone, not counting our other alliances number scored) |
Re: Best 2010 Autonomous
I think that 573 should be up there. We have one that clears all 3 balls from zone 3, and often scores them. We also had a 469 program that blocked them out of the tunnel, and our alliance was the first to actually beat them with that strategy.

Now to make an auton that shoots the balls, then goes and blocks 469 :P |
Re: Best 2010 Autonomous
I WISH we could go over that bump as beautifully as some of the other teams. We had a bit of a problem with it at West Michigan and one or two teams noticed and tried to use it against us, but we've got it fixed now (our ball grabber was a bit too far forward).
At West Michigan, we kicked the 3 in the back zone and averaged 2.1 points per match in auton. I'd love to get all 3, but it is very difficult. We bounce in the middle region intentionally to get the balls to settle down - hitting the backboard or the ramp up to the goal is a quick way to miss every time. For the longest time we'd bounce our second shot off the second bump every single time. We fixed that in the last two matches at West Michigan. At this point, going into states, I'm wagering that almost every bot there will at least be able to get 1 in the close zone, and should be able to advance the middle balls, so we aren't changing anything. |
Re: Best 2010 Autonomous
You'd have to be pretty fast to kick and then block 469.
We used our 469 auton at Cass and it worked wonderfully. All of these autons are bad for 469, though, as their amazing contraption sits idlely in some matches. |

Re: Best 2010 Autonomous
We are glad that we finally perfected our near zone auto to never interfere with any alliance partner that tries to score from mid and far. Our ball never touches the chain at all and perfectly goes into the goal on the fly at an angle, all at the last 5 seconds of auto.

Re: Best 2010 Autonomous
I'd put our alliance up for the best coordination. Once we formed our alliance, 294, 968 and 980 coordinated our auto modes to perfection. Although, we don't launch the 3rd from the back, this vid best shows the coordination...http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv/match/2010ca_sf2m2
As already mentioned, the two alliances managed to combine for 9 in the first match of the finals. http://www.thebluealliance.net/tbatv/match/2010ca_f1m1 |
Re: Best 2010 Autonomous
I haven't seen many matches this year. I was at BAE on Saturday, and I've watched the elims of two FiM events. Typically they don't cover the whole field in one shot, so it's pretty hard to judge autonomous on a webcast.
However, 1519's autonomous definitely stole the show at BAE. Having 5-8 balls in their near zone and far away from their opponents goal was a huge momentum swing in their favor. When 78 tied it up, 1519's alliance skipped autonomous mode and lost. When they put their autonomous mode back in and took a deep breath, they overwhelmingly won their second match to seal the deal. Despite the fact that this is year has a pretty low key autonomous, I think it might be my favorite. It doesn't have a point value associated with it so it isn't hugely obvious (see 2006, 2008) but it isn't undervalued in most matches either (2007, 2009). |
Re: Best 2010 Autonomous
The best autonomous I've SEEN was 1918's far zone. They went up to each ball, stopped, and kicked them into the near zone. They frequently scored. From what I saw, they never had problems with running the ball over.
