I like this year's as well. It's exciting for the crowd, especially when the long distance shots bounce their way into the goal (read: FRC2046 Bear Metal). Hearing the cheers "go... go... go... YES". It's a nice way to start the match.

We are proud to say we were able to join the 3-Goals-In-Autonomous Club this weekend at North Star. We did it four times. In one qual. match when we had teleop kicker failure, it salvaged the match, with a 3-0 final score. All programmers heading for Atlanta that do not already have autonomous, get some help and give it a try, you might be surprised at what you can do.

1519 had the best auto at North Carolina, they scored 5 once, even had 1772 on their team and did well regardless in autonomous. Meaning that even 1772's great auto was helped by 1519's

So did we at Mich State over the weekend. We can now pretty consistantly get the three from the far zone in the goal (if its lined up right :cough:) We also have a super 5 auton that consistantly kicks the three from the far zone, goes over the bump, and kickes the two in the middle. Props to our programer Andrew, he has done a fantastic job.

I would have to say that the Number 2 Alliance at the Michigan State Championship (67, 217, 2612) has one of the best alliance autonomous.

I think that they actually got all 6 balls in during autonomous, 67 was in the middle moves forward and puts two in then sprints backwards to get out of the way for 217 in the far zone allowing them to score all 3 balls. I don't remember at what time during autonomous that 2612 put their ball in from the near.

Awesome planning and execution by the programmers of all three teams.

I think they did it in the match before this but you can at least see 67 and 217 doing what i described above. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CWDLrB5C-N0

Thanks, Bryan!

It *should* work every time, except it is highly dependent on how it is lined up, something the drive team seems to have a hard time with. Through Troy and a few matches at MSC, I was able to perfect it so the first three always bounce in the middle zone and roll into the goal, and the fourth and fifth land just in front of the ramp and roll into the goal. Works really well. If it misses, it is always slightly to the right side. It never hits the refs, something our drivers can't say. It runs at 1.2 feet per second except when going over the bump, since it can't go faster than 3 feet in 2 seconds (2 second out-of-box rule).

Got a good chuckle out of that one! Kitty will fire away! :yikes:

I wish we had 5! :yikes: We set our record at 3 balls out of 5 in one of our qualification matches. It is amazing at how 1/4 inch difference in where items sit in relationship to our ball magnet and kicker can cause our kicker to mess up to the extreme. In the eliminations our active shepherding mechanisms shifted and balls could not sit properly on the vacuum so when we stopped to kick they would roll away.

Our autonomous can kick 5 balls consistently and scores on average 1-2 balls and gets the rest in the near zone to score and give us ball dominance depending on how well the opposing alliance did in getting balls out. Ball dominence is key in matches. At GSR and NCR in the finals when we did not clear balls out of the far zone we lost. At GSR our kicker jammed and kicking had to sit out until the next match and we won after getting all 3 balls in our near zone. At NCR we got 1-2 out in most elimination matches, but in the finals we usually had 2 or 3 that didn't make it out and cost us the match. If we had all 3 of those balls in the near zone for 1772 to score, it could have pulled off a second win, but the number 1 seed was too much. :)

I agree. 1519 had one of the best autonomous that I have seen this year. They can either stay in their section and clear the balls, or they can start in far and clear 5 balls. Usually they have around 3-4 make it in (When I saw it).

They were an amazing team anyways! Gotta love them homeschoolers.

Thanks for the honorable mention - that's definitely a flattering statement!

Well, I'd sure like to think that our team (1519) scored 5 points in auto once; however, I'm pretty sure we have never scored all five of our kicks! As has been said in this thread, it's almost impossible to make all of the kicks that reliable, as the bounces are almost impossible to make consistent.

That said, I'm fairly certain we successfully moved two balls from the far zone to the near zone, scored one from the far zone, and scored two more from the near zone in one of our auto modes! Essentially, making this our "perfect" auto, except that two of the balls in the far zone missed to the right of the goal.

I would definitely agree with those that think that auto is a very significant part of the match! It is a brief period when your alliance knows you have unrestricted access to 6 balls, which you can put in known locations! After auto, whoever has "ball domination" has a distinct advantage, although certainly not an insurmountable advantage.

Just figured I'd dispel the confusion about 1519's autonomous mode! Thanks again for the mention! :)

You know what would be cool to see?

1519 / 469 / someone who consistently scores in the front zone.

Knock back 6 in auto, get a cycle going before teleop starts, end of game at that point, World Champions.

Numbers added for my remarks.

Just because (1) and (2) happen, I think (3) is not a given. A high probability for sure....but not a given. Just my opinion. :)

Have fun blocking all 6 balls while simultaneously stopping two front bots from scoring while scoring your own balls at a faster pace. 469 can only be beaten if the cycle doesn't have more than 3 balls in it at a time (basically, autonomous has to go wrong).

I understand exactly what you are saying. I've reffed them at District and States. My point is:
Batteries die, bots flip over, human players drop balls, connections come loose, great bots do unexpected things, coaches make mistakes. Did you watch the bot bang them at the right time to cause balls to fall out of the rack into the midzone?

I'm just saying that your statement is more definite than I believe. Enough for me on this one.
