Thank You Dave for taking the time and effort to compile this assortment of information to post. This information will definitely come in handy on my visit down to Atlanta.

Thanks for the list Dave.

Anyone going to that hawks cave game? Ticketmaster still seems to have tickets avalable. I might go to the playoff game if it's Saturday night or Sunday afternoon

anyone going to the Bon jovi concert as well, I remember there was a Avril lavigne concert a few years back.

With the exclusion of samples of the original formula - the one with coke in it. ;)

Thanks for the listings and links, of course. Meanwhile, I wonder about the mentality of FIRST scheduling that finds something wrong with Southern hospitality in mid-April. Have they checked out April weather in St. Louis?

If you have a hankering to ride a segway, there is a tour operator that uses them. It is based in Underground Atlanta. citysegwaytours.com/atlanta They now have a convenient departure point in Centennial Park!

I'm kind of disappointed nothing is playing at The Tabernacle in Atlanta this week. Looks like their shows start next Tuesday. Sadness. I kinda wanted to go there just to see what the place looked like inside!

Oh, and btw, does anyone know ticket prices for the CNN tour? That's one of the things I haven't done in all my years in Atlanta, & was wondering how much it was. Their online ticketing info seems to be down now.

Thanks for the list Dave. Very helpful.

I noticed Georgia Tech has some campus tours and some special stuff going on for "Robot Week". And what a great Computer Science college and degree program. I think my son and I will check it out on Wednesday. It has quite a reputation and I can see why.

Yes! There is an event at the Georgia Aquarium for people in FIRST. It is to be held from 5:30-10 and it is $13 per person.
More info here: http://www.georgiaaquarium.org/acb/s...px?Conv_Id=745

I will probably be going to this since I've always wanted to go to that aquarium. Out of all the times I've been to Atlanta, I have yet to go there. :(

Richard, I am glad you mentioned The Georgia Institute of Technology. It is a often ranked in the top 10-15 best public colleges in the US. I can't say enough good things about it but of course I am biased. My son (4 years of First in HS) is a junior there, majoring in chemical engineering. For this semester he is enrolled in the fantastic co-op program at GT and working for a major petroleum producer in Texas. He has helped out at least one First team in that state in the past year.

Update On ATL Events This Weekend

I missed a few items and want to mention other events again happening this weekend that will impact local ATL traffic.

BREAKING NEWS: This just in Wed afternoon....The Georgia Department of Transportation has cancelled scheduled weekend construction on the Downtown Connector (interstate I85/I75) as well as a planned bridge work project on I-20 at Windsor Street. They obviously have heard about the Championship event. ;-)

The Atlanta Hawks (basketball) will begin the playoffs this Saturday at 5:30PM against Milwaukee at Philips Arena (next to the GA Dome). Obviously not a good time for "First" folks.

The Atlanta Braves (baseball) will have games Fri-Sun against Colorado - at Turner Field, slightly S of downtown.

Freaknic - Historically black colleges on spring break - It is believed at this time that most or all of their events will be in or near nightclubs outside of the downtown area.

Atlanta Dogwood Festival - Piedmont Park in NE Atlanta.

Georgia World Congress Center

Southern Region Volleyball (8,000 expected, Sat 8 am - 2 pm, Sun 8 am - 7 pm)
First Robotics
Atlanta High School Celebrity Step Off (5,000 expected, Sat 4-9 pm)

GA Aquarium - The world's largest - A bargain at half price thanks to First. Half price is Friday evening only.

The weather for Atlanta is really looking good for this weekend (Temp 56F-79F or 13C-26C) with only a slight possibility of rain on Saturday.

Welcome to Atlanta everyone and have a great First Championship.

Re: Info & What To Do & See In Atlanta

for your parts and tools list you could add the mcmaster and msc warehouses
16.7 mi away, and right down the street from each other

from the dome,
mcmaster - 16.7 mi away
msc - 9.4 mi away

and i'm sure these numbers would chaneg a bit based on what roads you take. I was just using google maps, and it doesn't necessarily take the fastest route

Dennis, you will take the gold line S towards the Airport however, you should get off at the Five Points Station. Transfer to either the green or blue line W. They will be marked Hamilton Holmes or Bankhead. Then get off at the first stop GA Dome/GWCC/CNN Center. Make sure you pick up a rail map at the station to help you and your friends out.
