You could always count Waffle House restaurants ... :p
Oh man, the route to Atlanta from Maryland is littered with Waffle Houses, er, uh, Waffles House..
Makes me wish we weren't flying down.

I'm loving all these ideas. Sounds like 2337 has added Pictionary, Electronic Catchphrase, and Waffle House counting for the list of things to do on the way down to Nationals!

I know we created a list of action/inspirational movies to watch on the way down to Atlanta. I don't have the whole list, but I remember some of them.

National Treasure
Oceans 11
Oceans 12
Radio
Ink

Bring a laptop with Portal. That way, when you say "The cake is a lie", your team won't give you odd looks.

Re: Things to do on the way down to Atlanta?

I wont be in ATL :( but we got stuck in two hours of traffic on the way to Dallas making the drive just under 14 hours (and I go on family summer vacations almost every year). I have plenty of experience :)

Some of our team on the way to Dallas got the "TWSS" Color Game started. Nothing like 14 hours of shouting "magenta". And I know this will sound terrible, but homework. I did all of mine on that bus. It a great time for reading too if people let you lol. Do trivia over each other to see how close you've all come as a team. Play games like "Big Booty" and "The King of France has lost his Pants". And I've always wanted to do this one, but i don't think many people would go for it. Have everyone be their favorite fictional character the entire trip. :D

My suggested movies are Fast and Furious, Accepted (one of our mentors brought it and had us watch it), Star Wars (preferably the original trilogy), Indiana Jones, Back to the Future I, II, and III, anything Harry Potter, anything Disney-Pixar, Transformers I and II, The Haunting in Connecticut, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, Wayne's World I and II, Speed Racer, any Sing-a-Long and Get Smart.

A wise trip manager once had use leave at midnight and we did a majority of the driving at night.

Uh...I don't know what to keep people interested for 15 hours on a bus. Movies that have been pre-selected by the majority. Rest Stops between movies. Games, scouting, talk about the slight probability that Curie won't take Worlds this year...uh...

Each team has their own interest callings, find your own and your team will be infinitely more fun.

Ahhhh I love "Big Booty;" I learned it at camp a few years ago, and miss being able to play it! This game involving kings of France and lost pants sounds interesting. If it wouldn't be a problem, could we have a quick 2-minute explanation?

If the bus has those fold-down tables on the backs of the seats, playing a nice game of Egyptian Rat Screw is always fun. I played it with a friend for a few hours of the 10-hour bus ride back from Michigan Tech last summer. Just be sure not to break the tables from slapping, and don't wear rings while playing:P

One person is selected as "The King/Queen of France" and everyone else who is playing numbers off. And the script goes:

King: "The King of France has lost his pants and suspects number (insert number here)!"
(selected number): "Who Sir? Me Sir?"
King: "Yes sir! You Sir!"
(selected number): "No Sir! Not I Sir!"
King: "Well then who Sir?"
(selected number): "Number (insert different number here) Sir!"
(new selected number): "Who Sir? Me Sir?"
and it keeps going. the out rules follow that of "Big Booty", except the "King" cant get out like "Big Booty" can. And the numbers shift too, like in "Big Booty". And this game is almost always played with pants on :D

Team 2865 is flying this year. (Idaho to Georgia = not a drivable distance)
I will be marathoning anime with my best friend, a laptop, and two sets of head phones.

Most of us just sit around and:
Eat
Sleep
Listen to music
Watch movies
DS party
Play cards
Play games on laptop
Talk about random stuff
Meet other people that are taking the train/plane with us across the country

This is a good idea, because for some odd reason a majority of the other students on my team dont understand this. thanks for the idea.

If you want a really interesting time, take all of your robot batteries on the bus. One year, a kid hooked them up to an inverter, letting us play his xbox 360 on a small lcd screen.

Small dance parties in the back also work well.

I honestly think that movie is depressing... which results in me not wanting to watch it. What are some other people's opinions? For me, I honestly hope that our technological advancements never reach to the point of artificial life (but how do you define artificial life?)... but then again, Wright Brothers never thought we could cross the Atlantic Ocean in under 2 hours.

You can always have a conga-line. We did it last year. :)

and yes, DS battles, homework, chat, listen to music, etc. all work for a 15 hour bus ride. I considered bringing a practice pad and a set of sticks.

What's always fun to do is play a really long game of Green Glass Door or Air Crossword. I guarantee that those will keep you occupied for many hours :)
