Dean's List Finalists

Is there a list somewhere of all 96 Dean's List finalists? I've been searching but can't seem to find one.

Re: Dean's List Finalists

I have not seen such a list, but one could be compiled from the awards pages of the individual events.

Here's a list but I have only 92 Finalists.
I counted 43 Regionals for 86 Finalists, plus Michigan State (noted as GL below) awarded 6 Dean's List Finalists = 92.
Who did I miss?

The original question marks have been answered by subsequent posters.
P.S. I incorporated Kevin and Joe's and Jane's and Cynette's information.

Check with the FF guys, they determined what teams had Dean's List winners for everyone.

Re: Dean's List Finalists

I incorporated your details into the previous list.

Two unknown names remaining are the Finalists from:
  • 1635 NYC Regional
  • 2583 TX Regional
Neither team's website mentions the winners.

Mark, the Finalist from 2583 is Ashvin Bashyam, I believe.

Did i ever mention that I really like working with you "guys" :)

And if you don't mind, Crystal from Team 1511 is Crystal Vongnaphone. For some reason she really likes the extra n in her name. :o

Glad to throw in extra letters. I often do so without even being asked.

Neither team's website mentions the winners.

From Team 1635, the Finalist is Fatema Akhtar. There was a wonderful write-up in their local newspaper when she won!

Done and done.

I believe we have a complete list for Carolyn.

Re: Dean's List Finalists

Thank you very much to all!!:)

I wish FIRST would make this list public on their website somewhere, I think it's a great honor and all finalists deserve to be mentioned and recognized there.

JaneYoung 13-05-2010 21:28

Re: Dean's List Finalists

You could ask to have this become a sticky here in CD.
That way, we would have ready access to it. You could also forward the list that has been compiled to FIRST with your suggestion. :) It is a good one.

Perhaps, the Dean's List Award caught everyone by surprise and they will be able to better plan in the future, including providing the information in the FIRST website.

I would still like to see the award entries. Not just the ten winners, but the 86 other finalist, and even the nominees. The fact that students were nominated for the award means that there is obviously something incredible about them and worth sharing. Please post your award entries, I would love to read them.
:D :D :D

That or you had 2 day's notice to apply for an award that gives you a discount on your KoP so you grabbed a few students' names and wrote nice things about them.

2791 nominated two amazing students (the above line doesn't apply to us), but it was less because we were itching to get them honored and more because of the KoP discount. If it weren't for the possibility of that, we wouldn't have done it on such short notice. Not because the students didn't deserve recognition, but because we had other stuff to do at the time.

Really? :ahh:

I actually find that very shocking, but I disagree that the line above didn't apply to those two students. You called them amazing which means that there is obviously something incredible about them and worth sharing.

On another topic: I'm really curious as to which grade the Dean's List recipients are in. Can we add that to the list?

That's too bad. If I were one of the students that your team nominated, I would feel insulted and cheapened because you wanted a discount.

I can guarantee that - that - is not how Dean Kamen wanted to honor his parents.

I agree. As a team that had a student, Seth Berg, honored with the award at the championship and will receive that discount, the discount doesn't even come close to the chance to recognize someone who has worked so hard on your team and give them the great opportunities that come with winning this award.

Just hearing Seth talk about how excited he is to visit Dean's house and meet all the great people there reminds me why I decided to stick around as a mentor. The discount is just an awesome bonus but honestly if the discount wasn't there we still would have submitted the same essays and our marketing team would have worked just as hard at honoring our dedicated members.

Re: Dean's List Finalists

I didn't mean to imply that these students didn't deserve recognition. They're awesome students! Basically what happened is we got the email 5 or 6 hours after it was sent out. We were in the midst of a very busy post ship and when we read that the deadline was so soon, we initially didn't want to do it. We wouldn't be able to decide as a team who to nominate and work together to draft essays worthy of the students we selected. We later learned of the KoP discount and because of that, we threw something together overnight that, while not very good, at least put their names on the table. It wasn't the team effort I wanted it to be.

My point was maybe a few teams rushed some essays out the door of students without much thought, and because of that we can't automatically say "Dean's List Candidate = Amazing student loved and supported by all on their team". 2791's nominees were great students, but maybe other teams had problems...
