Why are you jealous? If you are going to be in the area I'm sure that 1114 would gladly give you a tour if you asked nicely.

Words cannot explain my jealousy...

Andrew - I think that most of us are jealous because we have no way of getting to that area :P

I know they would, but unlike Chris, I don't have the time to venture up there! :( Hence why I'm not going to Beantown this weekend again! :( :(

I could just move there!

Chris, this is very awesome. I would love to have the chance to visit them one of these days. But alas I don't think I will ever end up in Canada.. And Oklahoma ain't all that close.

I was thinking the same thing... But they do know how to make some of the best engineered bots around.

Yes, but electricity provided by hundreds of thousands of hamsters running in little wheels. Folks think the oil spill is bad, wait until those hamsters get loose!

No, seriously folks, Canada is a great place. I hear they are working on building a second road.

Yeah, but it's called "water" (Ontario Hydro?)

Well, there is only one road linking eastern and western Canada, north of Lake Superior.

Okay West Coast passengers are responsible to split the gas money! But what is better than a plane ride with FIRSTers? A road trip with FIRSTers! :)

I wish! That would be SO awesome!

Actually, wouldn't it be really neat if we arranged a cross-country road trip, online? Set a course from west to east, and do photo-tours of each team's workspace on the way.

If you stretched the idea a little further, it could encompass and include the teams' workspaces, globally. Kind of like elastic - thinking, I mean.

Actual conversation with ChrisL from 1114 and MORT members in the pit:

"Dude I heard Canada's advancing everyday in the technology department, they even have running water now." -sarcastic mechanical kid

"Yeah we pretty much get a giant block of ice every week and as it melts it just runs down the pipes." - Chris

Australia to Israel and everything in between?

Lovely, I have a cool idea, and don't even know how to begin to organize it...

Yup. I'd love to learn more about teams from other countries that participate in FRC (and the other FIRST programs). Chile and Turkey come time mind. Brazil, Mexico... Where In The World Is FIRST? :) Their shops/work spaces - could help tell some amazing stories and provide common ground.

If I can help, let me know -
Jane

Re: pic: Guess where I went this week?

I'll go ahead and clarify things a bit here. :)

After my family got out of college this year, we took a short family trip up to the Niagara Falls region and St. Catharines. Upon hearing about this, 1114 graciously offered me a tour of their school's shop. For an hour, instead of paying too much for tourist attractions the next town over, I got a student-guided tour of 1114's shop and robots past and present. (I don't know where the mentors were hiding, but not in the shop...)

It was a very inspiring experience, but not quite in the way you'd think. Without going into every detail, I can just say it's apparent 1114 is the product of pure dedication, hard work, and strong leadership rather than ridiculous resources. That's the magic of the Simbot program. I wish I could engage student leaders like they do. Must be a Canadian thing.

(Now I just have to convince my family to vacation in Greenville, TX! :D)
