TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
TARDEC/IGVC is starting tomorrow! Top 24 teams in Michigan are congregating under tents outdoors at Oakland University. I'm going Sunday, what about you guys?
Attending Teams: 1 33 51 66 70 201 226 245 397 469 494 503 548 573 830 910 1023 1718 2137 2337 2612 2619 2834 3401 |
Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
Some of the teams on the top 24 list, however, will not be attending, and other teams will be there in their place. I don't know what teams will not be present or which ones will be replacing them though.
Hopefully the weather will hold out for a nice weekend, although it doesn't look like it's going to... |
Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
I'll be there both days. I have some code changes to make (a few modifications that make it happier with long run times expected in demos).
Wow, that is an excellent list of teams. A world champion and world finalist (oh no not 67 and 469 allied TOGETHER!) Edit: I did not realize this was not the list. We will be there. |

Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
I think you might be missing one Lisa, you only have 23 on there. Or will there only be 23 teams there? Either ways, thanks so much for the list!

Thanks a lot! I updated the OP. So, is anyone sure how TARDEC is doing the alliance selection for the elimination rounds?

Unfortunately we've had to take down the feed. It was streaming live from a Droid phone but after an hour or so the phone started overheating.

Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
Thank you Jack for the update and info. Richard, that was surprisingly good video, i hope you didn't fry the phone. The only thing i wish they had was some stands for visitors. Alittle hard to see the field.

Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
Another update: 2337 had their second suspension of the year, with 2619 hanging off (previously accomplished with them on the Ann Arbor practice field, finally done in play). Picture is coming soon (Media upload)

Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
Today was great. I can't wait to go back tomorrow. It was so much fun to be at a competition where everyone was really just hanging out and talking and forming relationships that are hard to form during official FIRST competitions. I loved the atmosphere at the IGVC.
I hope more FIRST students go check out the actual IGVC pit area. Talking to the college students and professors was very cool. They were all really impressed that high school students built "those other robots" and they thought that Breakaway was really exciting. They couldn't believe that we built our robots in just 6 weeks. So, students: go talk to them! Learn what schools they're from, make some connections. A few of the guys I talked to were very interested in the fact that one of our students did the majority of the programming himself, and wanted to try and recruit him for their school! You never know what opportunities may present themselves, but it doesn't hurt to go looking for some. |
Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
2337 seemed to have found a new location to start from and hang too. Did the back-side one hook hang count?

The IGVC is an awesome event, with lots of matches to play in a fairly short time, an opportunity to drive the robot in competition when you're not the driver (well, we only had different operators and HP's, same driver), and a time to teach Freshman the funs of changing batteries and bot bottoms. |

From what I was there for today (about half of the matches), everything looked great. It was a really relaxed and event, with great robots and people (we even had a brief tweetup halfway through the afternoon. It was nice to met Zach and re-meet Andrew after months of talking to them through Twitter and elsewhere). I really wish I could go back up to visit tomorrow! |

If you guys played D in your defense zone like you did on us at championships, it would have been awesome. I still think your hang mechanism/deflector was awesome.

Make sure you take some time to go check out and talk with the IGVC teams. That is a really cool and tough competition that programmers would especially enjoy.

Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
Does anyone have the alliances for the competition?
|
Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
I was informed by one of the my teammates that 2337, 2619, and 201 are together for the eliminations. That's all I know.

Results:
Winners (#1 alliance) Team 33 (captain) Team 2137 Team 66 Finalists (#3 alliance) Team 51 (captain) Team 469 Team 245 The #1 alliance was undefeated in eliminations. I didn't write down the alliances, and don't remember the semi and quarter finalists. |
Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
Allainces:
* there was no draft, pairings were auto-assigned. I may be wrong on the Captain, P1, P2 order, but these were the groupings 1: 33, 2137, 66 (Winners) 2: 910, 503, 548 (SemiFinalists) 3: 51, 469, 245 (Finalists) 4: 2834, 573, 2612 (QF) 5: 2337, 210, 2619 (Semifinalists) 6: 1718, 70, 3401 (QF) 7: 1, 226, 1023 (QF) 8: 830, 397, 494 (QF) This was a fun event and was great exposure for FIRST. Outdoor robotics always brings me back to the old days in the EPCOT parking lot. Luckily, the flooding was only minor today :) Thanks to Jack Jones and Gail Alpert for all their hard work putting this together. |

Thank you TARDEC and Jack for sponsoring this event. It was a lot of fun for the kids. We let other kids on our team be driver, operator, human player and even drive coach for the qualifying rounds. We have parents and grandparents coming out to watch. Being able to put the folding chairs right next to the field for the grandparents were great. They enjoyed the event too.

Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
I would also like to thank all the organizers and sponsors of this event. It was a lot of fun. Congrats to 33, 2137, and 66 on the win. Unfortunately, we missed the end of the competition. We got everything loaded up after we got knocked out, but we weren't able to completely cover everything so rather than let it get rained on we took off. I look forward to seeing many of these teams at MARC and IRI later this summer.

Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
That was a great competition. Had alot of fun :D! Thanks to 548 and 910 for being such amazing alliance partners and I hope everyone else had as much fun as I did! :D

Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
This was a fun, laid back competition. Great weather Saturday, not so great Sunday, but still fun. I'm going in to my senior year at OU, and its great to have some kind of FIRST event there and to see that it has grown from last year. If only they would host a district...

Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
Thanks to all the teams who made the IGVC Invitatitonal spectacular!!!
Here are the links to the stats, which BTW come nowhere close to to explaing what went on at IGVC-I Imagine a 100 x 80 foot area with a regulation field in the middle and 24 of the best teams in the State of Michigan (argueably a dozen or so of the best teams in the world) surounding it. There were no queues - teams went straight from their pit onto the field and back at the end of the match. There was a 12 match per team with a ten-minute per match schedule – no COM, no problem – we’ll wait till you hook up. Loose screw, no problem – we’ll find you a wrench. We had no desire, rain-flood or otherwise, to stay "on schedule" - yet we did! The US Army was totally impressed! Rankings Match Report |
Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
Absolutely, thanks to Jack Jones and Gail Alpert, two great parts of FIRST, and they put on an amazing competition. It was especially cool to be able to wander into the other tents and see the two other competitions.
TARDEC turned out really well. The outside-ness was a little bit unwelcome, with the rain, but inside the tent it wasn't too bad. Certainly being right next to the field was a big upgrade (especially when our last competition was Atlanta). There were no problems with the refereeing or the event staff, and the food was excellent! Our lack of suspensions was unfortunate, with several fails, especially in the eliminations. However, the overall level of competition was great, and the robot durability testing was fun to watch. Thanks to our alliance partners! 2619, your scoring from every zone of the field was the mainstay of our alliance. Without it we surely would have fallen. We manged an early suspension too together, too bad it wasn't repeated. Maybe later? 201, your near zone finishing was very impressive! Between that and your hangs, you made the difference between a good alliance and a great alliance. It was a pleasure to play with you. Congratulations to the winners! 2137, your ball moving skills were unmatched, and probably the main reason you beat us! We'd move the balls in, you'd shoot them right out. Hahah 33, complimented by 2137's moving, you were quite possibly the best finishers at the competition. Each and ever ball delivered to you was incontestably scored! 66, your aggressive play may very well have given you gold! It was your midfield defense that pushed our alliance out of the way, and that continued throughout the finals as you bludgeoned your way to victory! Congratulations to all the teams, it was an excellent competition! We at 2337 look forward to seeing more great Michigan play at MARC, IRI, and Kettering Kickoff! See you there! P.S. Expect more suspensions :D |

2. Vertical pole suspensions? And that mythed double-suspension we were all waiting for in elims? |
Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion

2. The double suspension.. We decided to go for the win in each match, which included a double suspension, but only if it was convenient. As it turned out, in most of our matches, 2619 could only hang off us, and 201, being in the near, more easily hung from the tower, so that's what we attempted, without too much success (besides 201, who did a great job!). We've said this at most of our competitions so far this year... But at our next event (MARC), we WILL be able to suspend vertical lifters! I'm building the suspenders myself! With that, the double should be easier to accomplish (easier to do and more chances to do it) |

Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
I posted this to the general thread first, but I should have posted it here. Sorry for the duplication.
I have posted my photos from the IGVC 2010 FIRST competition at http://www.flickr.com/photos/daniele...7624089529859/ Also, I registered a new address that will link to all my photo sets. There you can find robotics event photos by year. www.roboticsphotos.com A note about the photographs: These were the toughest lighting conditions I've yet encountered at a robotics event. The diffuse, muted light through the tent material, which changed as the cloud density varied, made for quickly changing exposure settings. Add to that the bright band of light coming in through the tent flaps, which made my camera meters go crazy. Manual exposure settings were my compromise. Then pushing the exposure in post processing to get a descent level on the subject usually gave the background a blown out look, which I kind of like (once in a while). The look makes it really feel like summer to me. So I hope you like, or can forgive in this instance, the halo effects in many of the photos. To me, it's better than trying to use flash in an uncontrolled environment. Comments, suggestions? Like or hate something? Want to see more or less of something, or a different something next season? Let me know. Enjoy. PS; Thanks for the shirt (you know who you are). I love it. |

Re: TARDEC/Intelligent Ground Vehicle Competition (IGVC) Discussion
Thank you to all of those who set up the event. It was a lot of fun and a lot different than the other competitions. Also, congratulations to teams 33, 2137, and 66. If there is any team that deserves to win, it's 33. Being finalists at both districts, semifinalists at states, and division finalists in Atlanta, it's about time they won.
2612 and 2834, you guys were great partners, and we had a few great matches with each other. 2337, 2619, and 201; You guys were a tough alliance, and it was a lot of fun to compete against you guys in the quarterfinals. It's too bad that we didn't get to see a double suspension. |
