2010 CalGames
Hello, ChiefDelphi!
I'm excited to announce that registration has begun for 2010 CalGames. Competition Date: October 22-23, 2010 Competition Venue: Lynbrook High School, 1280 Johnson Avenue, San Jose CA 95129 Competition: CalGames 2010 will be a replay of the FIRST Robotics Breakaway competition. Registration: $400 Registration with $150 of that paid by BAE Systems and $100 Volunteer Deposit (returned after completing team volunteer assignment) The NET paid directly by each team: $250 Registration Fee + $100 Volunteer Support Deposit = $350 due by September 15. A big thank you to BAE Systems for its ongoing support of the WRRF community! Using a large part of the BAE Systems’ donation allows WRRF to discount CalGames 2010 registration fees. Every team needs to volunteer for a slot to confirm ANY registration regardless of TIER. (see link below for details on what "Every team needs to volunteer" means). CalGames 2010 will support up to 36 teams and has registration TIERS, similar to prior years. More information can be found here: http://groups.google.com/group/wrrf-...uncement?hl=en I hope to see you there! |
Re: 2010 CalGames
Can't wait for CalGames, it's gonna be great as always.
Teams beware, 668 is going to have a major revamp over the summer :D Edit: Forgot to add: I'm so glad CalGames is going to be 2 days this year. |
Re: 2010 CalGames
Wooohoooo! :D
Will there be two days of competition? Usually there is one set-up day and one day of comp. Team 100 will be there again fosho! |

Re: 2010 CalGames
The two main stipulations that came with BAE Systems funding the event were:
1. The event needed to be expanded to two days. 2. We wanted to reduce the cost to the teams. Now that these goals have been accomplished I would strongly urge teams to really look at other off season comps and think about additional ways that this event can be enhanced. Then bring those thoughts to the planning meetings and participate in making CalGames one of the premeir offseason events in all of FIRST! |
Re: 2010 CalGames
Thank you BAE for your continuous support.
Team 604 is super excited for another great CalGames! |
Re: 2010 CalGames
I hate to be a buzzkill, but I can't help a team is traveling all the way from idaho just for Calgames. That's an awful lot of money.
The money would really be better saved for the season (unless the team is just loaded) and/or additional supplies, resources, etc... |
Re: 2010 CalGames
Ya know, Adam, you could say the same thing about, say, CA teams traveling to Indiana just for IRI.
It may just be that they want to compete in an offseason and CalGames is the closest. |

I can't speak for CalGames, though. Perhaps the event is Just That Good as well, but a much better kept secret? |

We have enough talent on the west coast that this could easily become an IRI in its own right, provided more teams chose to travel and we found a bigger venue. And I'm really excited #2122 is coming! Great team, and a great robot! |

Quantities of awesomeness aside, I'm inclined to agree with Eric. I love the idea of a team volunteer assignment. Setup & Teardown of the field is probably the largest need of short-term manpower at any event. |

971 is ready to rock the house again!

Re: 2010 CalGames
We are really looking forward to CalGames. We have made some good friends while competing at UC Davis and are looking forward to chance to test our robot mods, give our new members a good view of some great robots, and to see our friends again. Personally think it is going to be a great event!

IRI is in its own league of course, but many of us have been treating CalGames like another official grade competition. The rest of the country just don't look West very often... |
Re: 2010 CalGames
Is there going to be a webcast of this event? I'd love to catch some of the action!

Re: 2010 CalGames
Was very impressed by 1323. Looks like they've added a killer ball pincher. Very effective scoring machine...
Also luv'n 2122. Really beautiful robot they have :) I expect to see it make finals. |
Re: 2010 CalGames
Does anyone know the status of the webcast? Unfortunately, I can't make it down this year :( so I will only get to watch remotely. I tried watching some today and it wasn't working for me.

Re: 2010 CalGames
Looks like fun, but it's hard to figure out what teams are on the field or see behind all the mascots. :( Go teams!

Re: 2010 CalGames
Are finals results posted anywhere on the internet? My friends on 1868 were quite happy. The lynbrook site doesn't appear to have it...

Re: 2010 CalGames
971, 254, 692 defeated 846, 1280, 256 in finals.
A huge thanks to our alliance partners, 1280 and 256 :] |
Re: 2010 CalGames
Did anyone get high quality video of the finals?
|
Re: 2010 CalGames
With the help of Ryan, Ken, and the volunteers on the field camera, we have MP4's of all the matches. Currently in the process of naming the files and splitting a couple where we failed to stop the unit between matches.
Calgames was a great event - thank you to all of the volunteers who made it happen, and to all of the folks who made it an excellent adventure. |

Jerry Morrison posted pictures of Cal Games 2010 here:

Video and the match results of CalGames can now be seen at :
