FIRST Playing cards? PLEASE comment.

Would you buy this? A deck of cards with various robot parts and FIRST people on the face and possibly our team logo on the back? At most $5 per deck. Please tell if you would be interested in buying before we organize this fund-raising idea.

Thanks!

Sounds kinda cool. I'd probably buy one. It'd be cool to see other team's logos as well.

And various game logos too

I agree, team logos (maybe, but some people would be disappointed their logo isn't on it) and game logos would be cool. I'd probably buy a pack.

I'd want to see some pictures though of how they look before I buy them.

I would think notable teams (HOF, Championship winners and founding teams that are still around) along with some important people and founder's award recipients. Also with some information on them on the card.

A suggestion: make sure you touch base with everyone that you want to highlight on your deck of cards whether it is a photo of a person, a team, a team logo, or another team's robot. Make sure you have their permission before you go to the expense of printing the cards.

Yah, a deck of cards would be a ton of fun. Dean Kamen the ace of spades, Woodie Flowers as the king of hearts, etcs...

I have a deck of Baseball style ones from 2007 that were made by the makers of the Behind the Design Series. They were pretty sweet!

I'm pretty sure you can't use the likeness of a govt official/NASA employee, but Dave would HAVE to be on the Joker if you could.

I bet you could, as long as you ask him first.

I would love to see cards with team logos on them! That would be really cool, fairly easy to do, and could be region specific - and getting permission to use a logo is a lot easier than permission to use a likeness!

I like the idea of having different editions, like games, people, teams, awards, events, etc.

No matter what you put on them, I'll probably end up buying some. I'd like one for myself, plus they'd make great end-of-year gifts for graduating seniors, mentors, and other people.

No, they would not be trading cards. They would be reg. playing cards.

We have discussed the issue of getting permissions and such. Now, we do have a problem. We cannot sell anything with our team logo (permissions issue), and we cannot sell anything with the FIRST logo. So we are stuck on what to put on the back (we do want to incorporate our team name and number on there somehow). What could we put on the backs?

Similar. But we were going to have actual pictures/logos on the fronts.

Re: FIRST Playing cards? PLEASE comment.

I made up a deck or two years ago when mentoring a team. It was for our own team members to use, however.
Just an aside, as nice as it would be to have the cards to use when back at the hotel, our team prohibited playing cards, video games, etc. when at competitions.

Legalities/permissions notwithstanding, I think four suits would be cool:

People (Dean, Woody, Dave, plus some WFAs. Andy Baker as a nun would be my suggestion for the queen)

Games (The last 13 FIRST games in order)

Famous Robots (The best and most famous - or infamous - FIRST robots. 71 in 2002. 469 in 2010. etc. Some subjectivity here of course)

Hall of Fame Teams (The last 13 FIRST Hall of Fame teams that still exist)

On the back, put your team name/number/color/whatever. I would pay $5 for that.

I'd definitely get a deck like Jared suggested

I'm interested in purchasing at least one :) our team tends to play in rides to various competitions as I'm sure others do as well so what a great idea!

http://twitpic.com/1vspz6 Found these when going through my closet this morning. They don't have anything special on the other side but I figured I would show you how other teams have done similar things.

Re: FIRST Playing cards? PLEASE comment.

That would be really nifty. Plus who doesn't like cards? You can play by yourself or with lots of people. Also a great way to spark other students intrest in robotics if they are playing cards with you and become intrested and curious about the people, teams, robot parts, etc that are on the cards. I would deffinatly buy a pack :D
