I'll be there whether pinkerton can make it or not, is it possible for a single person to enter the best costume contest?

Haha nice. Actually I think it would be more fun if it was, they should consider that as an award!

It's a rock opera. It's really entertaining and gory. It usually nerdy people like FRC'ers that have seen it

I just found out last week that 1922 Oz-Ram will be there and I will be able to attend too! Now I have lots of questions.

Is www.riverrage.org the best website for the event? It looks like it has not been updated for a while. When it is probably most of my questions will have answers (I do realise that it is time consuming when everyone has school work, jobs and robot work to do).

Are Andy Grady and Dave Price going to do the announcing?

Only 37.5 days left.

Glad to hear that 1922 will be making it. The current url is the official one. I'm not sure how updated it will be over the next month, but I'll try to get some information out here.

The competition will be held at Memorial High School in Manchester, which is great because it is a big venue with alot of history. We will we using the double elimination format again. This year, the standard rules of Breakaway apply. The only differences will be that we will not be using a DOGMA timer (DOGMA delay of game penalties will be assessed at refs discretion). Also, the draft will have the top 8 picking as per normal FIRST rules, with the exception that it will NOT be serpentine. It will go 1 through 8, then back through 1 to 8 again.

We will also be having best robot costume and best team costume awards. I forgot to mention the best individual costume award to the RR comittee at the last meeting, but I still love the idea.

Also, we will be once again doing the Legacy Award. I highly encourage teams who are attending the event, to bring materials (posters, info packets, etc.) for the Legacy teams and the River Rage Comittee to judge. We want to know why your team exemplifies FIRST! Past legacy award winners include team 178 from Farmington CT, Team 88 TJ Squared, Team 126 Gael Force, and team 78 AIR Strike.

Finally, registration is capped at 24 teams. So far, we have 23 signed up! First 24 to pay are guaranteed enterance. If you want to attend, please make sure that you contact Ed Forcier through e-mail at elf305@yahoo.com. The enterance fee is 200 dollars. WE ARE ALMOST FULL! IF YOU WANT TO COMPETE, PLEASE CONTACT US ASAP!

Hope to see you all there. If you have any further questions, please post them and I'll try my best to answer them.

-Andy Grady

p.s. I will be on the microphone in some manner, most likely emcee. I'll figure out who my partner is soon.

p.p.s. Start practicing your Bobblehead. :D

Re: RiverRage FOURTEEN

I am disappointed to report that team 241 will not be attending. We are too busy planning NHTechfest (www.nhtechfest.org, everyone is invited, its free!) amongst other things. But I think I will still stop by in my Halloween costume and cheer on FIRST in general lol

kstl99 23-09-2010 23:21

Re: RiverRage FOURTEEN

Thanks, Andy for the info. Two more questions: Do you have a list of the teams attending this year? And most important - Does anyone have any video of Dave's Bobblehead performance?

Dan - Sorry that 241 can't make it but I am also looking forward to NH Techfest!

Wow, 7 states will be representing this weekend which equals all of New England theoretically, we'll leave NJ out of New England.

Stop asking so many questions Stuart :p

Update: BUZZ 175 will be attending RiverRage 14. We signed/registered back in July, though there seems to have been an issue with the submission of our payment. Unsure whether or not it is due to lack of communication, but we are being allowed to attend.

See you all there.

Haha, I spent the first 18 years of my life in New Jersey and no one I know down there considers themselves or NJ to be part of New England.

The NJ regional was known as the Mid-Atlantic regional for a very long time, up until 2004 I believe.

Re: RiverRage FOURTEEN

After qualifying rounds, below are the top 8 seeds:
  1. 811
  2. 40
  3. 134
  4. 1058
  5. 1519
  6. 175
  7. 131
  8. 238
No "in-picking" was permitted during alliance selections. A historic 1-8, 1-8 draft was used instead of the "serpentine" draft. Below are the elimination round alliances:
  1. 811, 78, 237
  2. 40, 1922, 348
  3. 134, 88, 190
  4. 1058, 2648, 501
  5. 1519, 1073, 3126
  6. 175, 20, 172
  7. 131, 125, 166
  8. 238, 839, 1729

Elimination rounds are not the normal FIRST style, but instead use a double-elimination tournament format.

I also enjoyed the event. It was great seeing and talking to some of my favorite teams that we have competed with and against all year. It was well run and all went smoothly.

Two suggestions. If there is any way to get a larger screen placed high and center it would be much easier to see scores.

I got confused with the "Double Elimination" format. Our alliance was eliminated after losing one match.

The format did produce the best two alliances in the final rounds. Both alliances had great robots, well driven and worked well together. Congratulations to them and to all who ran the event!

One sad note: it was the last competition for Tin Man V, our robot, who has served us so well in over 100 matches. The team has vowed to keep him in running shape for ever.

I'm glad you enjoyed the event and thank you for the feedback. We'll have to look deeper into how we can make viewing the scoreboard easier in the future.

As for the double elmination format, I will try to figure out ways to better allow the crowd to follow what is going on next year. I'll probably make up some blank brackets with instructions for teams to fill out so they can follow along with the action. I can assure you though that no one was elminated after losing only 1 match. The way the bracket works, it would be physically impossible for it to happen, because if there was no winner/loser at any point, it would leave a hole in the bracket and completely bring the queing line to a halt. If I can figure out what two matches you guys lost (I need to get a copy of the queing bracket somehow) i'll let ya know.

Hope to see you there next year! The Tin Man was an amazing robot this year and I look forward to seeing what you guys pull off next year!

I too was one of those who was very confused by the bracket, but just did what the quers told us to do. This year I helped with queing which was confusing at first in the elims, but was very easy after understanding the sheets Andy is talking about were given to each of us quers.

Note:
This is only the Lower Tier, Team 20 (The Rocketeers) is in possession of the other one.

Thanks, Andy.

That's the loss I remember. I mostly wanted to make sure I understand how it works for future events. The main thing is that we had a great time and were able to give some new drivers and new kids on our team a taste of what we will be working for in a few weeks.

I see by the top of the page only 119 days till the first regionals!

What's nice about the "We're all winners, but with just one loss" bracket is that if you look to the left of the numbers, it shows the match the team originated from. So in 1922's case, the only way to make it to match 13 was to lose match 11. This means you got really far on the winner's side and would have moved to the finals if you had won 13. That's a really great run!

Memorial is a very hard venue to project anything (we've tried), so I think having copies for the crowd to keep score is a great suggestion.
