Now THATS a Swerve Drive

Has anyone else taken a close look at the Willow Garage PR2 robot?

Check out all those modules! Some other nice shots.

Probably one of the most advanced robots in the US. We have one at berkeley doing the laundry!

Bah, anyone can fold square pieces of cloth. If they ever invent a robot that can fold a fitted bed sheet, that will be an accomplishment :p

The swerve drive isn't the really impressive part about that robot, its the programming. Being able to identify a loose object like a cloth, and manipulate it is amazing.

These shots are fantastic. I have seen the PR2 up close at ICRA 2010 and its a sight to behold. The robot weighs 300+ pounds and had amazing object manipulation demonstrations. The 75 pound arms feel very flexible when shaking hands because of the large springs built in for compliant force control.

Universities all around the country have the PR2 now, go see one in a robotics lab near you !

Check out Goldhofer Semi Trailers and Modular Trailers. :ahh: Now THAT'S a swerve drive. The rest of the website has all kinds of other cool stuff that's just as amazing, for moving anything from a storage compartment to a 200m bridge truss on a variety of terrains. And of course it has to have at least 20 independently controlled wheel modules. :p
