Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
Here's a shoutout to the awesome peeps on SparX 1126 for a job well done! Not only did we win second place in our REGION, give the top teams there a run for their money with a competition so close, we lost by 5 points in game 3 of 3, and were awarded for best autonomous; we also brought team 3157, in their second year, completely passed over by the other teams, into the spotlight, where they were able to display their awesome skillz on the field. To come in 2nd place at a regional competition is a high honor in and of itself, but to do it in only your SECOND YEAR OF EVER COMPETING!?!?!?!?!? Being able to help them accomplish this feat meant more to me than all the awards in the world! Great job, Blue Alliance!!!

Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
The difficulty with the GSR feed on Friday had me pick FLR as alternate. Glad to have done so, even though I didn't see the Saturday "show" because I went to an FTC tournament. Now I'm hoping for some replay video to continue admiring the class of competition there. No disagreement with what's been mentioned here already.

Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
It was a great competion, even though we didn't make it to eliminations and weren't called up for back-up, it was still great watching the top alliance earning there win. It was still gret because not only did one of our own win Deans list (giving us a two year streak :D) we won Engineering Inspiration which means we get to compete at Nationals. We are gonna work to see if we can afford to send the team, but even if we don't we'll see Rolling Thunder and anyone else thats going at DC during week 4. Congrats to all and see you next year!

Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
For anybody looking for pictures of their robot or other robots, I've uploaded all the pictures I took on Friday doing field reset to an album:
http://s167.photobucket.com/albums/u...onal%20Friday/ Congratulations to the regional winners 2056, 217, and 1518 as well as the finalists 1126, 340, and 3157! Congratulations also to team 340 for winning the Chairman's award yet again! I think you guys are the class of FIRST and I can't wait to see you win it at the World Championship one of these years! My team was so excited to find out we had won the Engineering Inspiration award! This was a project several years in the making, and to see our efforts come together with winning the award at last was truly inspiring to the team. Now to see if we can find the funds to attend the championship this year. :P |
Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
Congrats to 2056, 217, and 1518 on winning the regional. Those last few matches were some of the most exciting I have watched in years. To have the first match come down to a tie and the last match could have easily gone either way. Tube for tube, minibot for minibot just to have ours burn out on the pole. Great finish.
Congrats to 578 for winning the EI. I hope to see your team at championship. Thank you SparX for picking us for Eliminations. When my kids asked me on Friday why I agreed to lend you guys our minibot, I told them that 340 & 1126 go way back and that it is just the right thing to do. Getting picked and almost winning the whole thing was proof enough. It is the thing that FIRST is made of and the reason we do this. It was great that we were also with 3157 a fellow B+L team. |

Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
The 2011 Finger Lakes Regional was one I will never forget. It was great to bring a robot that was ready to go out of the bag.
To the other 43 teams, the atmosphere was amazing, especially in elims. The house was packed, standing room only around the upper level, it was quite a sight. I talked to some people that came to watch and they loved the game, they loved the venue and they loved the atmosphere. Thursday was kind of rough, but no one got discouraged. Our veteran field staff worked hard and made sure we got in some practice time. Friday afternoon, we worked with 1126 to see if we could outfit their robot to deploy our sub 2 second minibot. Everyone knew that if either 2056 or 217 was ranked #1 they were going to pick the other. Knowing they both had quick minibots, only a pair of equally quick minibots could bring them down. The college aged mentors on both teams have a great relationship with one another and it's been talked about since 2004 that we would love to go into elims with them again and it couldn't have worked out any better this year. When they selected us with the #2 selection I knew who was going to be waiting for us in the finals. And we couldn't wait to get there. Before elims started we finished all the preparations to have SparX deploy a copy of our minibot. During the endgame of Quarter-Final 1, watching the Steve and Stevie (The minibots) go up the poles almost simultaneously will be something I will never forget. In the finals, we knew it was going to be a fight. Everyone expected 217 and 2056 to win. We knew we had fast minibots and consistent deployment, we knew we could give them a run. The First match, going into the endgame down 62-12 and coming back to win with 1st and 2nd place minibot (tie goes to the minibot winner) was amazing. I can't wait to watch that match again. In the third match, we just couldn't get the blue square on the peg, so we gave up on it and went for our bread and butter. Steve. Sparx Deployed Stevie and got 1st place, 2056 got 2nd, all we needed was Steve to do what he had done so many times, go up that pole one more time. However Steve deployed, went up about a foot and went up in smoke. Seeing Steve on the pole blowing out smoke, knowing that it just cost us a regional will be an image that will be tough to forget. Our alliance of 340-1126-3157 had a great strategy and it was awesome to see the excitement and energy that 3157 had. Ranked 33rd out of 44 teams they felt they didn't have a shot at elims but good scouting is all about finding those teams that can complete your alliance. Working with a fellow B&L team that was so happy to be playing with us was great. Take nothing away from 217, 2056 and 1518. Congratulations on your regional victory and an additional congrats to OP Robotics on your 9th consecutive regional win. Congrats to 578 on your much deserved Engineering Inspiration award. I hope you can make it to championship. Karthik and JonDarr, you guys make an amazing team and it was a pleasure to listen to you both all weekend. To Glen Pearson and the rest of the regional planning committee, thank you for putting on another great regional event. FLR truly is one of the best. Good luck to all teams that compete in future events, for us it's on to Chesapeake! |
Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
The FLR finals were the most epic games I have witnessed to date.
