2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
Let's get pumped up for the 7th Finger Lakes Regional at RIT's Gordon Field House!
We're bagging and tagging this year but that won't stop some heavy competition from packing up their robots and bringing them to Rochester! 217 will be making their 3rd trip to FLR to defend their 2010 Regional win. Also 2056 and 2994 will be making their 1st FLR appearance along with fellow Canadian FLR veterans 188 and 2852. FLR brings in some solid out of towners but we have plenty of home grown talent. 191, 1126 and 1511 will highlight a deep field of veteran teams that will surely bring their best to get 2011 started off right in week 1. With Jondarr calling the action, Steve MC'ing and Dante in Yellow making the calls on the field, FLR will not disappoint. Are you ready?!?!?!?!? |
Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
Michigan Team 1528 MTR (Monroe Trojan Robotics), formerly the iPirates, is excited about coming to our first FLR. I have been trying to get the funds to come up there for the FLR/off-season event for years and have finally been able to do it. My team can't wait to display their capabilities to those outside of Michigan once again. While also meeting up with our old friends with 1126. I also love the chance to talk with KoKo Ed for a full weekend.

Bring on FLR... I seriously can not wait! |
Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
1713 can't make it this year. Something about not enough money. I even volunteered to sleep outside to save on hotels, to walk to save on buses. Apparently, you can't do that. All that aside, even if we're able to come up with the money at this point, we've missed the deadline for registration.
Good luck and have fun to the teams that will be there! |
Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
1511 is ready! Well... as ready as we can be 30+ days before build season... We definitely do not have a robot yet though... :)

Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
1551 has these weird things now we haven't seen much of in the past -- what are they? Oh, yeah, trophies and banners!
We want more of those. We'll be there. :D |
Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
In addition to the FIRST Robotics Competition at RIT. RIT will also be hosting a it's 1st annual "Brick City" Junior FIRST Lego League Expo the weekend following the FIRST Robotics Competition.
![]() To Learn More Visit: http://www.rit.edu/first/jrfll We hope to create FIRST March Madness in the "Rochester Area" with the addition of this event! As well as an opportunity for the area's youngest to get involved with FIRST! We encourage local FRC teams to spread the word throughout their community (elementary schools, scout troops, community centers and more)! |
Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
Who doesn't love a good Finger Lakes Regional?!
I can honestly say that competition in the Finger Lakes regional is some of the best I have ever seen, and it is my distinct honor to be able to compete once more in what will be my final year as an FRC student! I love being there, the energy is positively electrifying, and it is always one of the highlights of my year. I can't wait for the Finger Lakes Regional to come around! See you guys there! |
Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
Did I mention 2056 has never gone to a regional and not left with the Championship Banner?

I concur that FLR is top-notch- thanks in advance to all the volunteers who work so hard to make the magic happen. Bring on the competition! And of course the dancing. :D |

Re: 2011 Finger Lakes Regional!
Don't forget, that 174 will not only be defending their title, but their three-time FLR winner title!
FLR is one of the few Week 1 regionals that provides a Week 5 experiance. About 90% of the teams have seen each other before - it's a very close FIRST family of teams and full of friendships. High energy, loads of veterens and rookies that are always better then the stigma of 'rookie'. But it has to be the volunteers that make FLR so much fun. I have to believe that EVERY volunteer has been a student or mentor of FIRST teams, which is what I think makes FLR so much fun, expecially for volunteers. I can't wait to have the Thunder Chickens return to the frozen tundra of Rochester! You help raise the bar and give us Rochester area teams something to aim for. And for all the teams returning, I wish you all a round of luck as this year just already feels exciting! But the one big question...that everyone is asking...that will make or break how awesome FLR will be...is...will JonDarr Bradshaw return as game announcer? |
