Some Michigan FRC teams may know us, but not for long. I am sorry to report that due to our current financial situation we will be changing from an FRC team to a FTC team.

You've been sent from starting the game for the Steelers to being on the practice squad for the Bills. Sound horrible? Well, if your goal is to be in the NFL, maybe not. But it's a pretty big demotion.

While understand what you mean, it is 1000% better than the team ceasing to exist anymore, and all the student's lives it'll touch.

By the time you travel (no FTC in Michigan), is it that much of a cost savings?

Have you contacted First in Michigan about helping to find funding sources?

I cant disagree with you more. FTC is a fun and rewarding experience. Just because you don't build such massive robots doesn't make you any less of a robot team.

I would also suggest you look into VRC. I believe there is a much larger VRC presence in Michigan than FTC.

It looks like people are missing what I was trying to convey.

1) I was particularly responding to David's post.
2) The NFL comparison was to put it in terms that others would understand (and especially those from football backgrounds).
3) I did say, did I not, that if the goal was to be in the NFL, that it was met by being on a practice squad for a bad team as well as by being a starter for a better team?

Being in the inspiration game is like being in the NFL. It doesn't matter if you're practice squad on the worst team in the league or the starting quarterback on the best team, you're still in the NFL. Sure, you'd rather be a starter, but compared to not playing at all, being on the practice squad still works. Same for inspiration--you're there, but you'd rather be able to be better/bigger/more X.

On the topic of FTC v FRC... I have a rookie bunch of kids, their eyes light up every time they get something working out of our VEX kits. I'm sure they will have the exact same "THIS IS SO FREAKING COOL" reaction to FRC. Heck, they had the same reaction when we told them to build what are essentially pinewood derby cars to teach them about machining. Point is, as long as your students are having that TISFC reaction I don't much care what tools you use to do it.

FTC is just as fun and exhilarating as FRC is. Just in smaller field. :rolleyes:
