I've thought for a couple years that Chris Elston is a key leader of the next generation of highly esteemed mentors. This is proof.

It won't be long before people speak of Chris in the same breath as JVN, Karthik, or Al.

Scott,

Thank you for posting this article.

A few years back, Chris was high up on my list of 'hope to meet' people. There were a few things I wanted to talk to him about:
a. the wheels that the team decided on for their robot cart
b. the strength of the team
c. the team's connection to/with 4-H and how that can better serve a community

I was able to hunt, er, track down Chris in the 1501 team pit at the Championship and, although they were busy, Chris and members of the team took the time to talk with me and answer all of my questions. Since that initial meeting, Chris always continues to find time to share the team's activities and experiences with me and I am always encouraged, inspired, and delighted with the great sense of humor that Chris and the team exhibit even during intense competitions such as IRI.

It is also a pleasure to hear about the impact that Chris has and that the team has on their community and the ways they contribute to and support it, serving as role models of wise and beneficial leadership and inspiration.

Jane

Re: Way to go Chris!

Well thanks everyone and Scott-for posting / blowing my cover.... :-)

It's certainly an honor to receive such a peer award like this in your engineering field. MrPLC is like a Chief Delphi to Controls / Automation Engineers. It's a free community website that we learn from each other just like CD does for us FIRST volunteers. It's a great place to learn and share and being a member of CD, I can relate to the good feeling of providing a place where people of common interest can share their experiences in life, mentorship, leadership and all that FIRST does for our upcoming next generation youth. I can't think of a finer bunch of people to hang out with anywhere in the country for sure.

Speaking of FIRST people. I was reading the other 18 winners and I saw one other FIRST person.

Brett Israelsen from Salt Lake City, UT. I didn't mention which team he was mentoring. I think that's awesome that out of 19 people, 2 of us are FIRST mentors. Here is Brett's story.

Here is a link to all 19 winners for Controls Engineering.

Another interesting thing you'll see in the list of people honored is meet Sundeep Chandhoke from National Instruments.... "In 2004-2008, I designed, prototyped, and defined the architecture for integration of a control-based model of computation into National Instruments’ flagship product, LabVIEW. "

How cool is that? One of the Labview's core developers.

Also there is a Magazine Print as well. Starting on page 37.

Jane-your so sweet. I am glad you come to IRI each year so we can catch up.
