Dallas Regional 2011
Does anyone know if the Dallas Regional is actually going to be a double event and if so is it two separate events at two separate locations or is it one location running 2 fields?

Re: Dallas Regional 2011
You posted the answer.
If we find there is significant interest, Dallas may go to a second event regional. |

Re: Dallas Regional 2011
I will answer your questions the best I can but I make no guarentees as to the answers.
Significent amount: Probably more than 30 wait listed. There are 52 teams at Alamo, 51 at Lone Star and 46 at Dallas. I don't see them rearranging teams to fit 10 participants in Dallas. The other double regionals (MN, WA, ON) have two different regionals close to each other, the farthest I think is just across the street. I would guess since everything is bigger in Texas, they will find a location that houses two events in one building. |

Team 704 is on the waiting list. The event is at the Dallas Convention Center, their is easily enough room for two fields if demand warrants it.

Re: Dallas Regional 2011
I believe it's a single-regional not a double, and the last time I checked I was pretty sure it was full(Though more than half of the teams were pending). Looks to be a large and rookie filled regional based on what I saw.

Re: Dallas Regional 2011
I wish everyone good luck with this regional, from the organizers to the volunteers to the participants.
Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones. Jane |

We're leaving for Dallas around noon today. It's been a long wait and we're excited that Week 6 is finally here!

Re: Dallas Regional 2011
Lots of un-inspected robots at the end of the day. Im hoping they remember the rule, that if they show up the entire alliance gets a red card... Id make sure to discuss that with alliance partners throughout the day.
Other than that the regional looks great, and with the exception of 148, there seems to be a pretty even "high-tier" bracket. I'm expecting some good matches. |

EDIT: As helpfully pointed out below, this isn't true for a red card issued for an alliance having an uninspected robot on the field. That does get the whole alliance dq'd. |

If a team passes inspection, but no one from that team shows up on the field, such as a robot breaking down during qualifications, only that team receives a DQ. |
Re: Dallas Regional 2011
Whoops. Mea culpa. I'd forgotten that detail of the new rule. I think must operate under the assumption that there's no way an uninspected team would try to get on the field, or get past the queuers or everyone else looking out for that. Thanks for the double barrelled correction.

Once you're there, you have to actually hit the play button on the flash video and wait through a short ad. If you're not seeing the flash video, you have an internet or browser problem. I'm using Google Chrome and it's working fine for me so you might try that, or updating Adobe Flash. |
Re: Dallas Regional 2011
Dallas Regional was a lot of fun and very well run. I hope everyone has a chance to come and compete at the Dallas Regional sometime in your future. It is a great venue with great volunteers and easy access in and out of the event.
I'd like to give a special shout out to FRC 647, the Cyber Wolves - your dancing, energy, and spirit kept me smiling throughout the entire regional competition. Congratulations on a job well done. Also, thank you, FRC 3529, for the special button that your troop leader gave me. I look forward to seeing you guys at a Texas event next year! Jane |

Thanks to everyone for making the Dallas regional a success.

Re: Dallas Regional 2011
Nice post, John. I will certainly make sure my "pneumatic students" read it! And it explains a couple of the match results.
You guys look terrific - and I have been supporting you with my votes in that thing you don't want your students looking at. ;) |
Re: Dallas Regional 2011
A week late but I wanted to let everyone else have a shot as I tend to be wordy.
Wow what a time! Thanks to team 148 for your faith in us as an alliance partner. Thanks also for looking over our robot, your suggestions were welcomed and greatly appreciated and the game play was a blast! Also thanks to 3037 for rounding out the alliance. Thanks for the part you played feeding tubes and taking on the rival teams. We win or lose as an alliance and you were there for us doing a tough job against worthy adversaries. Thanks to the teams we played, 3005, 647, 3802...1817, 3507,3384,...2864, 3370, 2283...you all played with heart and determination and never did I think any round was going to be easy... and it never was. It was great seeing the teams I've gotten to know over the years... The Warriors, the Cyberwolves, Purple Haze, P-51 Mustangs, Full Metal Jackets... It's always a pleasure to see you and interact at these competitions. You're an integral part of the FIRST community and just like with alliances, I feel we win or lose together and it's fun to have someone to cheer for between our own rounds. Let's do this again next year! Steve |
Re: Dallas Regional 2011
late but thought id post... congrats to 148 on another dallas win, definitely brought back some good memories from our trip their last year.
See you all in St. Louis!! :) |
Re: Dallas Regional 2011
The Dallas event was a blast. We've enjoyed every single moment of it. Congrats to all contestants and especially winners.
If anybody wants to watch some game videos feel free to visit Team 2948 Prototype's Youtube channel EDIT: Sorry for the wrong link. It is fixed now. |
Re: Dallas Regional 2011
Sorry for this being really late, but I just wanted to say thanks for everyone for the amazing time! I'm honestly absolutely astonished that we managed to do so well - we even beat 148 in our second match in the semifinals! (Yes, their robot was disabled for most of it. I think it's still a pretty remarkable feat - considering how badly they stomped us the 3 other times we faced them)
Everything went beautifully at Dallas, and I hope to see you all next year! Hopefully we can have a really top-tier robot next year, as it took a fair bit of luck for us to get that 7th seed! (Of course, without a bit of bad luck we would have gotten higher... I admit I regretted not getting that highest rookie seed. ONE SPOT!) |
Re: Dallas Regional 2011
I remember that we had 1 game with ubotics in which red alliance did not show up at all. That was an interesting thing to see.
