Dallas Regional 2011

Does anyone know if the Dallas Regional is actually going to be a double event and if so is it two separate events at two separate locations or is it one location running 2 fields?

From Billl's Blog September 28th:

Dallas dates
Good Evening Teams,

It’s official. The Dallas Regional has moved from Week Four to Week Six and is being planned as a double event. For right now we’re calling the two events Dallas East and Dallas West, but that might change in the near future. The date will not change again.

Then a month later from Bill's Blog October 27th:

If you plan to register for a Regional event in Texas, you should know there are a large number of Texas grants this season requiring Texas teams compete at Texas events. In order to accommodate this requirement, Texas Regional events will be closed at second registration (i.e., all teams that register will be put on a wait list.) We will move teams from the wait lists into the events once we determine there are spots available. Priority will go to Texas teams with no other events. If we find there is significant interest, Dallas may go to a second event regional.
456 is wait listed for Dallas. Who else is hoping to get in? Looks like 359 is hoping to make the trip from the islands but won't know until the 15th.

You posted the answer.

Uh, yeah, but one would assume that if there is a need to wait list teams until December 15th there would be at least some interest in Dallas beyond the extensive list of TX rookies. What FIRST defines as "significant interest" is unknown, hence why I was asking what other teams (besides ourselves and 359) are wait listed. I'm also still unclear if Dallas does become a "double regional" if that means one location with 2 fields or two separate locations. For example: one in East Dallas and one in West Dallas as the original BB seemed to imply. The Dallas event listing only refers to "Dallas Convention Center" yet VIMS seems to have a Dallas event and a Dallas West event where you can sign up to volunteer.

I will answer your questions the best I can but I make no guarentees as to the answers.

Significent amount: Probably more than 30 wait listed. There are 52 teams at Alamo, 51 at Lone Star and 46 at Dallas. I don't see them rearranging teams to fit 10 participants in Dallas.

The other double regionals (MN, WA, ON) have two different regionals close to each other, the farthest I think is just across the street. I would guess since everything is bigger in Texas, they will find a location that houses two events in one building.

Thanks! That is helpful information! Never having been to a "double regional" I didn't know how they were setup.

Team 704 is on the waiting list. The event is at the Dallas Convention Center, their is easily enough room for two fields if demand warrants it.

I believe it's a single-regional not a double, and the last time I checked I was pretty sure it was full(Though more than half of the teams were pending). Looks to be a large and rookie filled regional based on what I saw.

I wish everyone good luck with this regional, from the organizers to the volunteers to the participants.

Looking forward to seeing old friends and making new ones.

We're leaving for Dallas around noon today. It's been a long wait and we're excited that Week 6 is finally here!

Woohoo!

Lots of un-inspected robots at the end of the day. Im hoping they remember the rule, that if they show up the entire alliance gets a red card... Id make sure to discuss that with alliance partners throughout the day.

Other than that the regional looks great, and with the exception of 148, there seems to be a pretty even "high-tier" bracket. I'm expecting some good matches.

Red cards are only alliance wide in the eliminations. In quals, they only DQ the team that's carded. The red card on an uninspected team is to prevent a team from recording any wins if they're not inspected.

EDIT: As helpfully pointed out below, this isn't true for a red card issued for an alliance having an uninspected robot on the field. That does get the whole alliance dq'd.

Not this year.

Quote:

<T03> A TEAM will only be allowed to participate in a MATCH and receive qualification, ranking, and Coopertition points only if it has passed inspection. If it is learned after the start of the MATCH that a TEAM did not pass inspection, the TEAM’s entire ALLIANCE will receive a RED CARD for that MATCH.

If a team does not pass inspection, and shows up on the field, the whole alliance gets a DQ.
If a team passes inspection, but no one from that team shows up on the field, such as a robot breaking down during qualifications, only that team receives a DQ.
