HDMI vs HDMI A/V
 

What is the difference between a HDMI cable (such as http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dynex+Di...&skuId=9343061) and a HDMI A/V cable (such as http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Dynex%26...&skuId=8427106)
I am really confused as both are used for audio and video.

I got the regular one, it works perfectly fine for my PS3... I am not sure if the gold plating will help much.

Gold is nice because it's shiny. But for a cable like that, gold really won't make a difference that can be measured (much less perceived by a human).

There is a lot of questionable "features" and shady practices with video cable retail. Buy the cheapest one that works.

The two I showed I have Best Buy gift cards to pay with :p so really there is no difference? I was thinking that but wasn't 100% sure. Thanks Guys.

I generally recommend gold plated contacts for connections that require low failure rates or will be used where the environment would allow corrosion. However, the price difference doesn't compare with the added benefit in this case. If the gold plated contacts were $15.99 or even $18.99 perhaps, I could recommend the upgrade.

I hate going there but when it comes to things like cables Walmart always seams to have the best deals. Many time by substantial margins, and that's on brand name cables.

under $15 for an HDMI cable at Best Buy is a bargain....but you might also look at the dollar stores :)

The funny thing is that with digital video, the connector quality doesn't really matter so much. If it works, it works. Signal degradation is a thing of the past.

Since hardly anyone understands this stuff, it's easy to sell overpriced cables.

I've noticed this with a lot of things best buy sells. I like best buy and all but they are kinda pricy. I ended up buying a 2 in one pack for $40 with a 9ft cable and a 3ft cable. My brother needed one any way so $20 I figured wasn't to bad for a cable at best buy.

The internet beats Walmart 9/10 times in my experience. You can get cheap HDMI cables from Walmart's website ($3.98 for 6ft), but you can find them for as little as $2.75 on Amazon.

And to the OP, I'm sorry, but $20 cable for HDMI is a rip-off. Sometimes the more expensive cable may be a bit more physically durable, but when I can buy 5-10 less-durable cables for the price of one durable cable, I'll go quantity of quality every time. And that's not even getting into the cables that Best Buy sells for $100+.
