Team 2829's 2011 Website
Here is Team 2829's 2011 website. Please check it out and let me know what you think. If you find any broken links or have any suggestions please tell me. Here is the link http://www.2011.sirmachineryrobotics.com/
Thank you, David |
Re: Team 2829's 2011 Website
Just a quick suggestion: The background is a bit too busy. See if you can find a pattern that matches what you're trying to accomplish, but more subtle.

@ synth3tk Okay. Check out the first page of the site and see if you think that's better.
And to all other viewers of the thread, please look at the pages and please give me your preference between chain mail (sponsors, media, and members page) and logo (home page) backgrounds. thank you, David |
Re: Team 2829's 2011 Website
The home page background is by far the most aesthetically pleasing. The chainmail is pretty distracting. I suggest you put information like "who are we" and "what is FIRST" on your home page. My team, 461, won the world championship website award this year. you should check it out: www.boilerinvasion.org
im not saying i except your website to look like this :D , but the template is a very good one to follow. You're making good progress though, good luck in the future the only other suggestion i would make is placement of the links, specifically the Helpful Links. Try and keep all the links in one bar unless its a different subject. Ex: on our website, everything about FIRST and the robot is at the top, and all the recent news links are on the side. |
Re: Team 2829's 2011 Website
on the members page, the second person's interests are cut off by the text box.

Member problem is fixed.

Re: Team 2829's 2011 Website
I agree with the previous things stated it's kind of to busy. I would also put more info on the page such as a description about your team location and some things about first. Off topic: are there really only two Of you On the team?

Re: Team 2829's 2011 Website
It's a great start!
I do agree that the chainlink is a bit distracting. I do, however, really like the idea of having team pictures in the background. Maybe you can focus on that. While the logo on the homepage is also god, you should decide whether you want to have that or the team pictures- having both is a bit distracting as well. On your homepage, you might also want to include your team number and a reference to FIRST (whether it be by writing "FIRST TEAM___" or by including the FIRST icon). Include a introduction to your team- just a few sentences on who you are and what you do. Maybe have the name of your school appear somewhere as well- at the bottom of the page? (This will help people locate you and also potential sponsors find a way to contact you). I really like the idea of having a bit of personal information about each member- that's a great idea! I also agree that the "Helpful Links" tab should be on the top bar. It can be helpful to look through the websites of award-winning teams to get an idea of common attributes. Here is my team's website for reference. Let me know if you have any questions! Best of luck! |
Re: Team 2829's 2011 Website
There is now a new page up on the website, the home page has been altered, a first logo added (which is a direct link to the site), and are physical location added. Please check it out and tell us what you think. And yes, I am aware that there are no links on the "links" page.

Re: Team 2829's 2011 Website
I think you have a great basis!
It just needs more color and organization. I have no idea how designing the website works, but if it's possible I think you should move the "About" tab to the left so it's right next to the home tab. Personally I think that should be one of the first things people read about. But I think the site is looking good so far! |

Sarah,
The suggestion you made has been implemented and thank you for suggesting it. Everyone, Please tell me what you think of the difference between the backgrounds on the home page and the other pages. David |

Re: Team 2829's 2011 Website
I asked our web team for suggestions on your website. This is what they suggested:
-Your web page could load a little faster if you use PNG/GIF images instead of JPEG images. -Add a contact us page so others may contact you. |

@ Ttakashima: I thought JPEGs were supposed to be the way to go on websites:o . Must have misread something. I guess I ought to change some of those around. And on being contacted, who said we want to be contacted :D ? |
