New Router?

Is there a peticular reason FIRST sent us a new Router this year in the veteran kop?

Re: New Router?

The D-Link product in the kit is the new robot "radio" and replaces the Linksys gaming adapters used the past two years. There were quite a few communication problems caused with the field and the two previous bridges if things were not brought online in the correct order.

Like JT said,

Last year the rookies had a newer generation wireless radio on their robots than the veteran teams. Sometimes if all the robots were started simultaneously some would not connect due to conflicts. By giving everyone a new radio this should be resolved.

So is it meant to be on the robot?

Re: New Router?

Yes, it replaces the previous wireless bridge.

If you look at the FIRST control system power diagram notice that there is a power converter (to step down the voltage from 12v to 5v) that you put in between the regulated 12v output and the D-Link device. You run the risk of frying it if you just direct wire it to 12volts

Re: New Router?

It replaces both the router and the bridge. Rookie teams did not receive a router. The control system manual available from the KOP website (http://usfirst.org/frc/kitofparts) shows the DAP-1522 being configured as an access point. The DAP-1522 goes on the robot, and the classmate connects directly to it wireless.

<R52> One D-Link DAP-1522 is the only permitted mechanism for comunicating to and from the ROBOT during the MATCH.
And...

B. The radio power feed must be connected via the 5V converter (model # TBJ12DK025Z) to the marked 12 Vdc supply terminals located at the end of the PD Board (i.e. the terminals located between the indicator LEDs, and not the main WAGO connectors along the sides of the PD Board). No other electrical load can be connected to these terminals (please see the 2011 Robot Power Distribution Diagram posted online at www.usfirst.org/frc/kitofparts for wiring information).

I am having the same issue, I cant get into the new bridge from my computer. I've got the computer set to get the ip automaticaly. When i enter 192.168.0.50 (which is supposed to be the default) into a web browser, it doesnt find it. Pinging doesnt work either.

To Kgzak,
I can share my experience with that issue, and really what fixed it was changing to internet explorer as the document suggests.(I was initially using chrome) Hope that helps.

To yarb65,
Have you tried resetting your device? Maybe you can give that a shot if its still not working. The instruction to reset are in the document about configuring the radio.

Guess I have to do it at school then. They don't make Internet Explorer for Macs.

You missed the step to set the IP address of your computer. Setting it to get the IP automatically doesn't work.

Is anybody getting the emergency web server page when connected to the router and after having gone to 192.168.0.50? Also, like tons of other people, I am having trouble reseting the router. Any help would be good.

Thanx,

David

Re: New Router?

Could you be a little more specific on what kind of trouble you are having with resetting? I followed the instructions exactly as they are and have had success in my first go, my suggestion is maybe you didn't wait for the lights to respond correctly or something of the sort.
