Clamshell Activation Code
I'm helping a relatively new team activate the Windows 7 OS on their new clamshell. Would anyone happen to know the activation code required?

Re: Clamshell Activation Code
If Win7 came with the laptop, the product key is usually on a sticker on the bottom of the laptop. If Win7 is installed from a retail product, you should have a product key in the retail box. If Win7 is already pre-installed on the machine, chances are you just need to connect the laptop to the Internet to activate the OS.

There is a .bat file available for download on the KOP page. All it contains is the following command:
Code:
start /min slmgr /rearm |

I'm more than a little irritated at the growing requirement for a live internet connection in order to be an FRC team. We don't have a usable one at our shop. I did manage to get a temporary link working yesterday, with an annoying firewall keeping us from downloading everything we would have liked to, but it was enough to let Windows 7 on the 2010 Classmate decide it was genuine. We'll have similar issues if we want to install WindRiver. |
Re: Clamshell Activation Code
That's one of our issues too. I am interested in knowing what other teams use for Internet connectivity for checking updates, search for datasheets etc. We usually need Internet connectivity in two places: our school for which although the school district has Internet connectivity, students are not allowed to access it. At the Joint Practice Field that several schools in our region built in some sort of warehouse where there is no Internet. In the past, if we are luck, some mentors may have a 3G/4G link on their phone that we may be able to tap into. We also consider a temporary subscription to 3G/4G/WiMax type of connectivity. But we are not able to find a service provider that will not charge you an arm and a leg for it. They usually involve activation fee, a 1 or 2 year contract etc. We just need it for the season (about 3 months). What is the most cost effective way to get mobile Internet?

Sorry, I should not change the subject on this thread. I have re-posted my question on a new thread.

Re: Clamshell Activation Code
All right, here's the thing... I followed the instructions word for word from this PDF: http://usfirst.org/uploadedFiles/Rob...tion_Rev_A.pdf
The documentation doesn't say anything further about activating after running the Classmate_Update.bat file. I've run the Classmate_Update.bat, I've seen the successful message, and I've restarted. Unfortunately, I still cannot activate. It gives me error code 0x8007232B, and I have 3 days left. I found a solution, but it requires a Windows Product Key... I also noticed that AVG was NOT installed as the documentation says it was. Perhaps there were two different versions of the 2011 software released? I'm actively searching for solutions, but if anyone else has encountered this problem and found a working solution, could you be as kind as to help a fellow team out? Also, for what it's worth, I performed the fix to get back our 5GB of data on the image, and it worked. I'm also waiting on the antivirus (Avast) to install and then I'll update the Classmate software from the link provided in the documentation above. Thanks! |
Re: Clamshell Activation Code
I too was frustrated by this, it kept saying that the key was not valid or something like that, so I ended up using a 7Pro key that I already owned

As an update... well I'm all up to date as far as the required updates go. I'm currently updating Windows, so I'll give it another go after it's up to date. Now I'm curious... are there veteran teams that have been able to update and activate successfully? I'm finding quite a few on the FIRST Forum having the same issue. |

Hmm... I don't know what it is. All I know is that I'm getting a "DNS name does not exist" error. You can see the update batch file on the desktop. I get the conformation that it was successful. I read up on this quite a bit last night and it appears there is nothing I can do.
Attachment 9653 I did find a KMS file in the user folder. Does anyone else see this file, and if so, is the address the same? Attachment 9654 |

Also, another curious thought... was AVG installed when you updated the classmate image? I find it weird that such a discrepancy would exist in the documentation still. |
