How many teams using grippers?
Curious as to how many teams are using grippers as oppose to other methods of gripping and picking up the tubes

Toward the beginning of the week my team was actually wondering about using two of these as grabbers. lol

Re: How many teams using grippers?
lol like gripping methods i have a poll set up so you can vote for like if your using some sort of claw gripper method or just some other method besides gripping the tube like a claw

Re: How many teams using grippers?
our team is using a claw type gripper this year and also did in 2007. But our gripper this year does not look remotely like our 2007 one. Our new one is made out of lexan and plaction material.
Here is the thread on our new gripper prototype (v.1 and v.2): http://www.chiefdelphi.com/forums/sh...php?p=1006748# |
Re: How many teams using grippers?
Aren't virtually all effective manipulators grippers?
If you mean pinching grippers, then we're looking into it, not sure yet. Here's a blog post about our thought processes! |
Re: How many teams using grippers?
I think the what the thread should be titled is "what teams are using claws this year" i think this was the intent of the thread because yes, almost all manipulators this year are grippers, but only some are claw types.

lol that would of been a better thread name....but at least people kinda get wat i was trying to ask hopefully lol

Re: How many teams using grippers?
As it stands right now, we've done about 4 prototypes and 1 production iteration of picker-uppers. The one that's complete is a pneumatic-driven inside claw that's optimized for the triangle and circle, yet also picks up the square by default (since it's smaller).
We have an interesting concept for a roller claw, but those students/that mentor are going to focus their attention elsewhere for now since we have a nice arm design that will accept any claw we put on it. Our overall goals are to have a complete robot to test by the end of week 5, regardless of how imperfect it may be in niche scenarios. |
Re: How many teams using grippers?
Our team is using a pneumatics powered claw to manipulate the tubes. We have yet to do testing on whether or not it actually works though.

Re: How many teams using grippers?
I watched several matches from three regional webcasts today...I didn't notice any "inside" claws being used. I did notice a lot of robots dropping game pieces.
Now I wonder how our inside claw will do? Seems to me that if it were a good idea, more teams would be using it? |

hmmm....I guess I didn't get a good look at their bot during the matches, it moves too quick
