Safe Torque Limits for BB P60 Planetaries
It appears that Banebots doesn't publish any sort of torque limits for the P60 planetaries. I know (have experienced ) that cantilevering the output shaft can lead to bad things rather quickly. How much torque have you teams extracted from them without issue when they were properly installed?
I found an old thread where Dr. Joe said that the old 42mm would fail under cycled loadings of about 350 in*lbs. Would that be a reasonable guideline to design under (obviously while incorporating a factor of safety that lets us sleep at night). As I understand it, there has been some improvements to these gearboxes over the years? I know the good idea is to go as low as you can go, but BB are pretty cheap and very easy to use, but I don't want to spend a season replacing them. Thanks! |
