A PVC pipe with thermal insulator machined (sanded down) in the shape of a wheel. Very fluffy, so it adjusts well to the different tubes, but not very grippy - we still have to add something to deal with that.

Impressive progress! What motors/gearbox combination are you guys using for the gripper?

We're using the RS 395 motors with a modified servo gearbox. Since our Banebots order hasn't arrived yet, one of the gearboxes is still using the original servo motor, which obviously will be replaced until competition time.

Looks very nice! Does the arm telescope to reach the top pegs? It looks like it may from what I could see in the video.

Seems like it could have problems grabbing other shapes?

how much pressure has to be in the tubes to pick them up? Can they be slightly deflated?

What kinda of mechanism lowers and rises the arm the gripper is attached to??

Re: Team 383 gripper prototype

This is just a prototype on top of last year's robot - we're testing the gripper here, not the arm, which is actually just a pole right now. The robot version will be a 4-stage telescoping arm.

We still have to fine tune the gripper, but yes, it can handle all three game pieces even if a bit deflated - we're considering adding a bit more pressure in the gripper to improve the "range" on flatter tubes.
