Putting functinal lights on the robot

Heya,

We (1072 programming) team came up with the idea of putting a light on the robot in order to make reflective surfaces (such as the final pole) easier to "see." This year's rules do not explicitly ban lights, but it usually is banned, so we're double-checking with the experts.

So, to summarize: are functional lights - penlight to flashlight level - allowed on the robot? We're not using strobes or million-candlepower things either.

They mentioned lights several times during kickoff, one of the demo bots had a flashlight attached, and the poles have retro-reflective tape on them with encouragements in the manual to use this feature to locate the poles.

So while I can't find a specific rule that mentioned lights, (1) they are not banned and (2) the GDC has encouraged their use several times.

I guess that many teams will be implementing such a function.

After all, how will the human players know which tube the drive team wants?
I dont think yelling and sign language will work well.
