Minibot Question

Alright guys, i have looked around and i have asked this question multiple times, but no one has truly answered my question.
I know for a fact that solder IS on the approved parts list, but for some reason one of the mentors thinks that solder can not be used to wire up the motor mounts to the wires. Such that a wire would be connected to the motor via solder (accidentally broke one of those stupid flimsy motor connectors.)

Re: Minibot Question

Team Update #5 added solder to the approved materials list.

Re: Minibot Question

Yes i realize this, but is there any rules against using soldering as means to hook up electrical wires to motors?
My mentor says that there is some sort of rule that says you must use proper connections for electrical, but is under the hostbot rules, not minibot.
Also, question, my mentor thinks that solder is for other uses, what other uses other than electrical does soldering have?

Re: Minibot Question

There is no rule that prevents soldering the motor wiring for any motor. In most cases it is the recommended way of attachment for motors that are not supplied with wires. That being said, soldering to motors carries some risk. The Tetrix motor terminals for example, are surrounded with plastic. Too much heat may allow the terminal to heat the plastic and short the terminal to the metal case.
