Importing error

I can import .STEP files with no problem, but Pro/Engineer files do not import at all

"Translation failed. Pro/ENGINEER unauthorized File Type."

Re: Importing error

Can you attach a sample file here that you can't open?

Is the Pro/E translator active in Toosl>Add-ins?

Did you turn off UAC and anti-virus before install?

When opening click Options and turn off creation of the html report (this causes problems on some machines).

Have you installed Service Pack 1 (with UAC and anti-virus turned off)?

How do you know if you've already installed Service Pack 1?
Thanks,

I think it was just hardware, running on a 1.5 Ghz single-core cpu and 512 ram

...are you sure about that? Minumum specification is 2Gig RAM.

Re: Importing error

While we're on the topic of RAM, Inventor crashes every once in a while at out school. I think the computers have 3 or 4 Gigs of RAM, but the "virtual memory" it stores says something like 1200 MB. Basically it only crashes when im working on the really big files for a long time, but do you know of any ways to help prevent that?

i'm sure, and the service pack won't install. uses a lot of virtual memory, 1 or 2 gig's worth.

our school comp's have 2 gig's and I have never had much of an issue w/ crashing, even with our robot files.

Re: Importing error

Joe,

Good to hear from you again this year. Let's see if we can resolve the import issue.

Depending on the type of ProE file it may not import correctly. For example, some types of assembly files may have issues and need file renaming and other techniques. However, I have checked all files related to FTC and the field and there were no problems on my machine.

Please email me a single file that is causing a problem and I will check it for you.

With regards to RAM, keep in mind that on a 32 bit system you have to use the 3 GB switch. See the Help file for details.

My machine has 8 Gigs running on Windows 7 64 bit and it sees all the RAM.

JoeK,

Here they are as Inventor IPT files. No problems with opening.

In Inventor, click Open > set Files of type to Pro/ENGINEER (*.prt*, *asm*) > select the file.

Attachment 10132

Attachment 10133

Re: Importing error

thanks, i tried that, but they wouldn't work, possibly because the school's comps don't have many of the addon programs for inventor
