Chairman's video

My team is doing the chairman's video for the first time. We're wondering if the video is due on the 17th along with the essay on STIMS (which if it is, we can't find the link to submit it) or if it's due the first day of our regional. The manual says "Teams competing for the Regional Chairman’s Award must provide a DVD to the judges at the event." So does this mean we just submit them a copy of the DVD at the event? We're a little confused on this.
Thanks!

The 17th deadline you speak of is for the animation video competition, not chairman.

Alright, thanks.
We were just confused since the essay is due the 17th as well.

The essay is due the 17th, the video is not.

Yeah, video's due at competition.

Keep in mind, though, that they'll only show the video if you win, and even if that's just a maybe (I think they're supposed to do it, but some regionals don't?). And if you want to show your video doing your presentation, you have to provide the laptop, and that's 2 or so minutes less you can talk.

If you have a good video though and it explains a lot of what you want to say, you can boot up the laptop before you enter the room and it shouldn't take much time. It could turn out to be beneficial.

Not exactly a Chairman's judge, but leading our team's first-ever submission, I feel like playing a video takes out a bit of the human element of the presentation. Almost anything that could be presented by the actual presenters, I'd think can and should be, as opposed to the video.

As for the video itself, remember that only the judges read your essay and see your presentation. Even if you win, your video is the only part of the Chairman's Award the teams at your regional will ever see.

I meant two minutes of video, not setting up. And I'm not downplaying the Chairman's video, it's just not something my team relies upon when making our Chairman's presentation.

You hand over your DVD when you enter the judging room to do your presentation and interview for RCA. You are not required to show it as part of your presentation. You just need to hand it in.

There is a presentation on Judging 101, including a section on the RCA, prepared for a local workshop this year. Follow the links from the NEMO page. http://www.firstnemo.org/resources.htm

Chairman's Award presentation from Senior Mentor calls (featuring National Judge Advisors for FRC) here: http://www.usfirst.org/roboticsprogr....aspx?id=10124

Also great hints in other threads on Chairman's Award submissions, posted this year.

First off, congratulations and good luck on your presentation. The Chairman's submission is the hardest thing that a team will ever do, but I think the most rewarding.

As Jenny just pointed out, the video is required, but it may or may not be used by the judges in their decision making process. So, if you don't want to use it as part of your presentation, don't. I also think that the presentors can do a better job of impressing the judges than a video could.

Besides, it is really difficult for the video to answer the judges questions....

If the video is not shown as part of the presentation, do the judges watch it independently?

From what I have heard, the judges only view the videos for the top few teams.

When I was a student last year, the presentation, the essay, the video, and any pictures had to be submitted all at the same time. And in the award rules it states that a video has to be submitted or you will not be eligible

Re: Chairman's video

Bring a hardcopy of your video so the judges can look at it.
