Audio Levels

I'm in the middle of editing our animation, and have encountered a problem.

The rules state:

Quote:

Audio (stereo, mono, none) peak not to exceed -6db or fall under -18db.
What does this mean? I realized that my audio cannot be louder than -6db, but it must stay above 18db?

How does every work through this? What does this mean?

Any help would be appreciated.

As long as you mean -18db then yes, you would be correct.

Then I have problem. How do you keep it above that level? Half of my audio dips below -18db!

But when I raise the volume, it goes above -6db! Either the balance will sound like it was put together by a five year old, or we'll get DQ'ed. :ahh:

Could you run some of the sounds through a filtering program that can do a log function on the whole thing? Tinkering with the filter will enable you to compress the sounds without too much loss.

If you read the rule again it says that peaks must not fall below -18dB. When put together with the previous spec, peaks should fall between -18dB and -6dB.

So the highest volume of the animation cannot be lower than -18db? Thanks!
