Yeah should be a really fun regional this year.

"FIRST" team 1671 the Buchanan Bird Brains are working hard and putting the finishing touches on the bot.

Our team has decided to release everything Saturday after our "Open House/Media Day". I will say we have an arm with a "claw". Pictures and video will be posted to CD next saturday after our powder coating is done! :)

2073 will be there Saturday, and at th Sacramento Regional.

We will also be going to Nationals this year!:D

I'm not in an FRC team, but I'm excited about going because there is going to be a NorCal FTC Skills Driving Challenge at Saturday in the regional and at the SV Regional. Anyone can attend and there will be robots built to use so there's no need to use any minibot parts for this. It's just for fun but it seems very exciting since it has been off-season for FTC teams since January.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to see what teams bring to the competition and I hope there will be a webcast!

1868 is going to be back at Davis this year after missing last year. It'll be great to catch up with our alliance mates from SVR last year- 100 and 675. Expect some crazy spirit from us this year....

Looking forward to showing up at the Sacramento Regional with new team this year. I haven't seen the competition there since I drove the 1351 bot back in 2006, so I'm going to be all manner of lost and confused as I lounge in the pits and tell our drivers to drive faster.

And I'll be there with these guys with a yet to be determined color of hair:

it's should be the only downside of tomorrow. I'm so excited because this is my first regional competition. (I went to calgames, but that doesn't count as a regional).

Team 701 as well as 1323 made animations.
But team 1671 won the Autodesk Excellence in Design award for their animation, which can be viewed here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ETuh0XEkjk0

Congrats to 1678, 1868, and 766 on the win (and EI for 1868, too) and congrats to 604 on winning Chairman's.

668 had a good time at Sacramento despite all the trouble we were having. We had an interesting weekend to say the least. We came in Thursday we a pretty good robot and an almost complete minibot and deployment system. Late Thursday, though, we decided to swap our chain tensioning method to turnbuckles, and ended up failing one of them, causing us to devote a lot of our resources to getting our arm back up, which didn't happen till our 4th match (which is why we ended up playing defense our first 3 matches). Ultimately, we didn't get picked for eliminations (a big downer to our seniors, who hadn't experienced this in all our 4 years on the team). We ended on a good note, though; we weren't allowed to bag up since we were still on the backup list, so we spent all our time finishing up our minibot. Right before finals ended, we actually got our minibot successfully deploying at 1.6s :D.

We look forward to seeing most of you at SVR.

I'll try to post a picture later of the hex shaft we twisted 60 degrees when the arm failed.

Please do, that was an impressive feat to say the least, I could hardly believe it when I saw it!

Big thank you to 1868 and 766 for partnering up with us Saturday afternoon. Thank you 1868 for working with us on getting your second minibot to work with our deployment system, I think both teams got a kick out of seeing it work so smoothly in such a short period of time.

I'm really proud of the students on 1678. The team has never made it past the quarter finals, never won any awards (except the rookie inspiration, since rookie all star was won by the only other rookie at the event), and only ever attended the sacramento regional in it's 7 year history. This year we "finished" the bot early, spent a week and a half programming auto and doing driver practice, and ended up only loosing one match the whole regional! Now the team is headed to St. Louis, and considering the team has never been to a competition farther than they can bike to, this is going to be a fun time :)

You guys really deserved it. Your robot was impressive from the get go and you had a really great minibot; when you teamed up with 1868 and started using theirs, you guys were impossible to contain in eliminations. Congrats and have fun in St. Louis :D

Re: 2011 Sacramento Regional

1671 had a blast.

The robot was 100% student designed and built. They all came together and made an amazing bot, finishing the highest in their team's history.

In the end it is what the students learn that really matters. I wish that every student in FIRST could have the same experience that ours did.

Congrats to the winners, 1678 and 1868 were right next door to our pit, and they are a great bunch of kids, very polite. :)

I wasn't there at the regional, but did anyone check out the FTC Driving Challenge in the pavilion? FTC Team 2848 Techno Guards help organize and design the event and they have some pictures of it. One member from FRC 2489 were there too. I did watch the webcast though.

1868 Space Cookies this is the first of many blue banners for the lab. Tell the Poofs to start making some space.

And 1678 we got our eye on you guys. Your bot is impressive. :yikes:

Thanks so much to everyone for the congratulations. We had an amazing competition and only wish we had been performing at our highest to help our alliance members on Friday.

1678, thank you so much for picking us. Your sheer creativity and engineering prowess was incredible to watch while you worked on that minibot deployment.

766 you were determined, reliable, friendly and optimistic. We spent the whole time during alliance selection hoping you wouldn't be picked before it got back up to us. Thankfully you were available and at the top of both our and 1678's lists, and it was amazing to work with you.

Where we're going to put the banner is a bit of a problem.... Anyone who's been to our lab knows that 254's 20 some-odd banners take up most of the available space. I'm sure we'll find somewhere, though.

Wow, thank you for the kind words. Thank you so much 1678 and 1868 for picking us. We had a blast working with you all.

Honestly, we thought we were not going to be picked. We had a very long Thursday full of problems that really shook our confidence.

To fill in on what happen, the third stage of our elevator binded to the second stage and popped out partially. Our bearing blocks were damaged a bit and the second stage of the elevator was twisted. We really thought we were crippled for the rest of the competition. We had to rebuild the second stage and repair the third stage. It took us a while to find the root causes for the failure and implement corrective measures. By the time, we got the elevator running, we missed all our practice matches and were extremely drained from the near miss of having no elevator to score with.

During the panic, we accidentally pulled out to robot functionally light, and damaged the Digital Sidecar. A big thank you to our inspector Bert, who made sure we go through most of the inspection before we replaced the sidecar. Also a big thank you to team 100 and Inspector Edwin for tracing to cause of the problem to the sidecar and proving the light was okay.

After a lot of rewiring, we discovered, that we had a pneumatic leak from debris getting on the gaskets of our solenoids. A big thank you to mentor Joseph (team 2073? I lost track which team(s) you mentor) for helping trace the leak and lending a hand through out the competition.

We finally got inspected Friday morning before our first match. Things were working well, but we never got the minibot system to work. The rest of the weekend, we defiantly suffered from low confidence. I think we all watched too much Inception. We feared it all was a dream, or a dream in a dream and when we woke up, our elevator would still be broken.

We were overjoyed to be picked. Witnessing 1678 and 1868 working together to run 1868's minbot on 1678 was amazing. We could see the confidence and determination in everyone's eyes on both teams. We could not help but get caught up in it. You all gave our confidence back. We wanted to support the alliance in anyway possible. We did not want to let these amazing teams down. It was honor to witness these two teams work together, it was an even greater honor to be part of such a great alliance. Thank you so much for picking us.

Yes, Joseph is from 2073. He is one of my former students from 1147. He now helps us out on 2073 and has become a fantastic resource. His enthusiasm for FIRST is wonderful to watch. He loves helping out wherever there is a need. That's why he now helps support three teams from the local area. I will pass your thanks along to him tomorrow.

Sorry about taking so long to reply I had to go from helping at the regional to help with my sisters wedding. It was awesome getting to help your team out and I was very impressed with your rebuild(s) and how far you guys went. If we had to lose the final round it couldn't of been to a better alliance or group of people. It was fun working with you and look forward to our next encounter.
