ViAir Air compressor needed
Our team is trying to get a new, lighter air compressor. We were looking at the ViAir 90c compressor, but it seems to be on back order EVERYWHERE. Does anyone know of a comparable compressor that is just as light (about 2.5 lbs or less)?

The ViAir 92c and 95c.

Re: ViAir Air compressor needed
We got the 95C. Pretty sure the only difference is in the mounting bracket. We hope to fire it up for testing tomorrow or Wednesday.

Re: ViAir Air compressor needed
Please tell me how your testing goes! we would love to hear, also do you know where i could get one relatively quickly?

Re: ViAir Air compressor needed
We got the 92C. It appears to have a flow rate that starts fast and slows down as pressure builds. It gets to 60psi faster than the old dinosaur sized grey compressors, but it takes longer to get to 120psi. It also has its air intake filter mounted externally. We are reasonably pleased with its performance and very happy with its reduced weight.

We are getting it for the reduced weight as well. Where did you get yours?

Re: ViAir Air compressor needed
I'm not sure where we ended up buying ours because I just found a couple of sources and gave them to the person that buys parts. There were a number of places with the 092C in stock through amazon.com and at Arnottairsuspension.com

The 90C will likely be on back order, but you can still get the 92C and 95C. |
Re: ViAir Air compressor needed
We got the 95c and have not really tested it other then turning it on to see if it works. To anyone getting these compressors, you may want to consider mounting a fan near/on the compressor to help cool it as they have duty cycles of 9% and get really hot very fast.
Oh and I looked on ebay, there are plenty of 90c, 92c, and 95c compressors on there. Compressor comparisons
We are looking to save weight as well, but concerned about the 1.03 cfm part of the rule.
Compressors are often rated by their CFM at the working pressure. The Thomas that FIRST sends is rated at .9 cfm, but the Thomas spec says at 0 pounds. The rule says: Compressed air for the pneumatic system on the ROBOT must be provided by one and only one compressor. This compressor may be either the compressor from the KOP, or an equivalent compressor that does not exceed any of the KOP compressor performance specifications (specifically: nominal 12v, 1.03 cfm flow rate, 120psi maximum working pressure). Compressed air shall not come from any other source. If an alternative compressor is used, the team may be required to provide documentation to show compliance with the performance specifications. Most of the worthwhile ones under $100 seem to be about 2 cfm. We will need to watch out for this and its hard to compare them accurately. |
Re: ViAir Air compressor needed
On a side note, does anyone have the cad for the compressor?
