Can some one please explain the team "notebook" to me please?

We're a rookie team, but we have to do a bunch of extra stuff 'cuz we're NASA-sponsered, but I'm a little confused. I went the the FIRST site, and I saw the sample notebook by the "psychotic strawberriez", so I'm writing one, but I don't know why. Can some one please explain?

Keeping a journal, a dairy, a notebook is a great idea and is something many of us should do..... however there is NO requirement that you do so and there is not a NASA requirement that you do so.

Doing a Chairman's submission is a NASA requirement, and it is also a helpful document to have at a competition to give to a 'pit judge'.

NASA asks rookies to do the Chairman's in order to help them get a start toward becoming a Chairman's class team. Honestly it will take your team a year or two to really grasp the full Chairman's concept. But you have to start somewhere.
