Wow, awesome looking scouting sheet! We're having a bit of difficulties here with the scout input data. Everytime we try to add in an entry, we get "Run-time error '1004'" and doesn't add in the data for us. It says its an application or object-defined error. We're not sure if it's our computer that we're using or if there is some sort of error with the coding.

Looks pretty amazing though, we'll be looking forward to using it if we can figure out this error.

Edit: We figured out what it was, it was us. :) We would like the password for it though, just in case we might want to add in a category or two more that we think might help us personally.

Hi guys,
Thanks for all the positive feedback so far - I hope the scouting system works well for all of you.

I know you said you figured out the error but can you go into more detail why that error was happening or how? I'd like to know if its something I can fix for future users.

It is not super important, but has anyone found a workaround for this, or do I just need to get some more computers with excel 2003?

I believe the excel object structure and thus the coding for VBA for excel has changed between excel 2003 and excel 2007. I coded everything in excel 2003 so I know it will work for that. I can't guarantee results for any other version of excel and I probably won't get around to figuring out what has changed between the two versions to upload a 2007+ compatible scouting file.

Regarding the password for the code and the sheets, I'm pretty reluctant to reveal it because of how sloppy/non-intuitive the code is in terms of readability. Maybe if I get around to commenting at some point...? :D

The chef never likes to admit wiping his hands on his apron. :) We can forgive quite a bit when the result is solid and stable. Did you code with ::safety:: glasses on? ;)

Thanks anyway. I might even be able to get my team members more interested in scouting because of this system. Stranger things have happened.

Thanks again for all of the comments. Now that competition season is officially here we will only be editing for glitches. I will have to talk to the other developer about providing the passwords to those who truely want them.

New Update 1.5:
- Clears entries after inputting.
- Won't allow entries unless there is a team number and a match number

Thanks for updating this! Look forward to using next week at WPI and to seeing you and your team there.

And I'd like the password, not to judge and critique any of the macros/formulas, but just to do some team customization (since we'll both be at 2 of the same events together)

Thanks again to the teams who have been testing our system and plan to use it. We will not be releasing the password to the general public as we believe that it is a good way for our team to get our name out.

Remember, the system is only as good as the data that is collected.

To those teams who are using this system Week 1, Good Luck, and if you get a chance please email me a copy of the excel file with all the data, I'd love to see how it all turned out.

Thanks Again.

148 has already done it, i say leave it in there! lol

Thanks, we're using this in combination with a custom PHP + MySQL data entry script optimized for iPods.

John, glad to hear you plan to use the system. Care to share a little more information on your ipod interface? Sounds like it could be useful.

On a side note, anyone who used this week one care to share their thoughts and the data entered?

Team 1023 didn’t actually compete in week one but our drive team and some of our scouts went up to Kettering. We scouted every match of sat. And imputed it all when we got home, the system worked awesomely! The only difficulty we had was tracking penalties because sometimes the announcer’s don’t say who the penalties are on, thus leading to mass confusion in the stands! I would suggest that teams don’t try to input data in the stands but instead set up a table some where in the building. We found that working with laptops in the stands was a real pain as was getting power to them. We will be using the system at Detroit next week!:)

Team 2338 will be using this at Midwest this weekend!

Any suggestions from anyone who has already used this system?

this is amazing! too bad we've already been to our regional, but we will be sure to use it at nationals, probably along with the majority of the other teams :D

Good work, nice interface. I have a minor bug to report. On the Scout Data Input sheet if you build multiple logos on the same rack it doubles the score of all tubes on the same rack not just the same row. For example, one full rack with no Uber tubes is 102 pts.
As a suggestion, I would simply get rid of all logo bonuses. Logo bonuses are a whole alliance thing and this skews the data toward those teams that put up logos on their own, not the ones that work as an alliance to complete logos on separate racks.

Team 1023 used this system this past week at Detroit! It was extremely effective and I would recommend it to any team. We will be putting a printer next to our computer during our next competition and will be printing the individual team sheets for our opponents before all of our matches. Thank you so much for making this available to everyone!
