Team 224 Test Drive

Well this here is just this year robot driving.
Theoretically, out bot goes ~70 mph, but we couldn't test it, as you can see, because we have no traction on that floor.

How on earth is your theoretical speed 70mph?

Your structure looks very nice! What weight is your bot thou?? It would seem impossible to get a bot to that speed if it weighed more than about 50 lbs unless you had shifter gearboxes. What gearboxes are you using?

And the Mechanum wheels don't help the speed either.

70 mph is 102.667 fps.

It looks like you're using 8 inch mecanums. So... that's a rotational velocity of 154 rotations/sec, or 9240 rpm. That'd require a 0.6:1 reduction on CIMs. At best. Which means your robot wouldn't budge. And seeing as you're it looks like you're using the CIMple gearboxes or the Toughbox Nanos, I don't think your math is right...

Looks like a nice drivetrain though.

I am just going to guess that you added a zero somewhere in your speed calculations. 10fps is much more possible.

Guys, I might be wrong but I think they were joking.. I hope they were joking.

Indeed. The only way your gonna get that close to that speed is with decagon wheels.

Yeah that or tank treads, they really can crank the friction up and almost double the speed of a bot!

Thanks a bunch guys! :D
Regarding the speed, I didn't really calculate it. A member on the team did it on his iPhone. I personally don't believe myself, but he insists that it is.
Unfortunately, we can't test its actual speed because its bagged up AND we don't have any more carpet to run it on

Our bot weighs roughly 106 lbs
and they are CIMple gear boxes
