Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
awesome video!!!
just added it to the scouting pit. 16 years and running! good luck this year |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Very cool design! Good luck!
|
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Very nice! The deflated tube pickup and score was espescially impressive.
Is this the unusual 4 wheel swerve we saw at Cowtown Throwdown or the traditional 3 wheel swerve? |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Love that gripper!
|
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
I wasn't a big fan of the inside grippers, but I guess it all comes down to implementation and excution. Great looking robot.
Plus, I love the 16 Years of Team 16 motto. |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil

It is a true 4 wheel swerve with independently steered modules. The one we ran at CTTD was 4 wheels with 3 steering motors. |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Great robot!
Just what I would expect from the Bomb Squad |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Amazing robot as always, and congratulations on 16 years of team 16. I'm not sure if Bacon will make it 1,902 years but if we do we'll defiantly steal your phrasing.:yikes:
good luck, hope to see you guys in St. Louis |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Can't wait to see you at Midwest!
|
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Another outstanding "2-minute warning" robot!
Congratulations on 16 successful years. See you in St. Louis! |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Nice robot! First grabber I've seen that can pick up a deflated tube besides ours. Looks like a really fast robot. I'd like to see it in person. Maybe we'll make it to championships to see it :yikes:
|
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
So much for our 'unique' "Twenty For Twenty" slogan! Awesome robot!, but no minibot teaser? What gives?

We have minibot(s) and we have video, but it was all from phones (with PINK walls in the background). Our minibot development was going on at a different building and the HD camera was at the practice court. |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
The robot looks plenty fast. I can't wait to see if it can juke out the defense. We'll be watching the Alamo webcast to see.
I'm curious as to how the gripper fits into the starting envelope. I'm sure it does, I just can't see it. Good luck this season. We'll miss you in KC, but hopefully catch you guys in CowTown, if not sooner at Champs. |

To Meredith and all of Team 16, your robot looks absolutely awesome and it matches that of an absolutely awesome team! Good luck this season and we can't wait to see you in St. Louis. :)

Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Alamo is turning into a mini Midwest. It's going to be an honor to be crushed by a HoF, and an original & sustaining team, with a little Magic sprinkled in...
|
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Great Looking robot can't wait to see it in action at Alamo. That gripper concept is truly unique and it appears to be extremely effective. Do you guys have selectable control modes for your swerve, most of the driving at the end looked almost like tank instead of swerve?
Also Paul don't count yourself out yet, 1429 brings a great robot every year. Alamo is going to have a lot of great robots for a first year regional. |

Meredith,
That robot looks outstanding! I can't wait to see you all this coming week. Definitely going to be a brawl for the first Alamo Champions. See you soon, Parker |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
It is a superb robot that has met all of our criterias, it is the best robot ive seen in the 3 years ive been on bomb squad. We appreciate all of your comments and i hope to see all of you their in St. Louis.

Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Very fast! In every respect!
What are you using to power your elevator? |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Ours looks a lot like that, actually.
Simple box frame with a Mecanum drive, 'forklift' arm, standard bumpers. (no minibot, though.) We actually have a pretty cool idea for the bumper attachment that you may like: The bumpers have inch long brackets similar in shape to sections of C-channel attacked to them with holes aligned with the C-channel itself, and the two are connected by running a pin through the bracket and C-channel. The pin is a quarter-inch wide, 2-inch long metal rod with a pull ring at one end and a spring loaded ball on the other end that causes it to stay in the hole when inserted. To remove the bumpers, you simply pull the rings. We found this when messing around with one of the pins and a piece of C-channel in our mentor's basement last year.:D |

We're using a pair of P60 gearboxes with RS-550 motors. it's a little over 2 seconds bottom to top. |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
is your crab coaxial? or are the motors "in pod"
also, what are you turning them with? |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Not coaxial. There are 4 separate wheel modules, each with a CIM for driving and a window motor for steering.
|
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Looks extremely solid.
Coupled with that freshman driver from IRI and wow, it's an alliance on its own. Congrats! |
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Your tube handling speed is very impressive. Great robot!
|
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
The thing you don't see in that video is how many Bomb Squad team members were in the pits of other teams helping out at the Alamo. A true inspiration to other teams, volunteers, and the public :). One of my favorite things to explain about FIRST is how teams help each other
|
Re: Bomb Squad 2011 Robot Unveil
Thank you, Richard. A lot of our team's focus is on training our students to assist other teams at events. The great thing is that they enjoy it more than anything else we do - well, winning is good, too.
Alamo was a great event. You volunteers did an amazing job - I can't believe it ran so smoothly. |
