1875 Robot In Tights

Check out our 'epic' video. We are really looking forward to the competitions!

Did that robot just throw a game piece?

Glad someone actually went with that strategy. Congratulations on taking the risk and having it work out so well. I'm interested to see a little more of how the throwing mechanism works.

Re: 1875 Robot In Tights

Yes it did :)

The arm acts very much like a human arm. There is a wrist at the top that 'flicks' the tube so that it gets the correct amount of spin to travel far enough down the field.

You can see the video below which was recorded at our open house:

Really unique! I like it.

With 3553 +1875+ and another "different" robot we would have the strangest Logomotion alliance ever. :D

Cool machine. Good luck!

the sound of the launch is ever so satisfying!

I love it. I wanted to build that.

Can we pick you even if you're not at our regional?

Your drivetrain motor controllers sound like they are in Brake Mode. The reverse shock into your drivetrain can be quite destructive.

Cool idea. I had been looking forward to a video of this all season.

I'm curious to see how well this design does in competition.

In theory, it'd do great on an alliance with a good tube scorer, but the throws look really easy to defend so who knows.

Anyway, cool robot and kudos for taking the road less traveled.

I would say it would be hard defending against that if they can throw that tube higher and farther than displayed in the video consistently.

Hope to see the design finds prosperity at competition.

Thanks for all the awesome comments!

Good point about brake mode - I am going to bring that up today;

The robot actually throws much higher than the first shot in the youtube video. The reason we had to switch to throwing on the ground was because the tubes were hitting the ceiling which is over 10 feet high.

The robot is designed to not have to leave the lane, so in theory it would be difficult to defend against.

We are looking forward to the regionals this year!

Do you have a fan club I could join?
I was really hoping someone would follow through with this design. Hope it works out for you.

New video coming soon - Version 2.0; we removed the chute and added a rotation to the wrist. We can now take the tubes horizontally from human player; can also place one on lower rack during autonomous mode. We are really excited.

We have a facebook page - not finished with it yet though.

I was hoping I'd see at least one thrower bot :) I am curious though, from what I saw in the video, I'm assuming the flicking is just a side feature, you don't score that way do you?

In the video, the piece is thrown at an angle which would have the holes entering the scoring zone perpendicular to the pegs. I would love to see a scoring video/hear more about how your gripper/scoring mechanism works!

Actually, our main strategy is to get the game pieces into the 'protected zone' as fast as possible so our alliance partners will have a lot of time to hang them on the pegs.

I hope to have the new video up soon of the improved wrist.

Haha, I can imagine the entire zone being carpeted in gamepices, after you throw three full sets over.

Awesome, makes sense. What's the trajectory like, will it be high enough during it's entire flight path to clear other robots? (Assuming that they aren't lifting or raising their arms? :yikes:)

What are those connections on your electrical called and where did you get them? i would really love to get those on our robot. could you provide a link?

They are the small version of anderson power poles (a larger version is used and provided for the battery).

Here's one source:

The pre-welded saves some time.

You can color code or even key them to avoid mistaken hookups. We used green-white on the motor side of our jaguars and victors so as not to blow them up accidentally.

I don't know the exact height, however we are hitting the ceiling in the outside canopy that is covering the field. I estimate the ceiling to be at least 10 feet in the air, probably more like 13 feet. Tubes are landing 25 feet away and then typically roll/bounce another 3 or 4 feet.
