team188.com v3.0 Feedback

Hey guys,

Any feedback would be appreciated on our newly designed website. If you own a smartphone with a data plan, I'd also like feedback on the mobile version of the site!!

The mobile site redirection may/may not work, I'm not sure yet. If it doesn't work, visit http://www.team188.com/mobile/. EDIT: It works now :)

Thank you!! :)

I REALLY like this site.

It is very well organized. I like that when I click on a link, it opens the info up on the same page. It is very easy to navigate through the site.

I also enjoy the ROBOTS section of the site. I like how all the robots from the history of team 188 are there with all their info.

My favourite part of the site is the photo gallery. I love that I can click on a picture and I can move it around and see from different positions.

Overall very well done! :D

Your website seems to not like lower resolutions. I'm running 800x600 and the menu options are unreable (and several bleed down into the text).

As fancy as the flash gallery is, I simply would not rely on flash in any given situation. There are plenty of non-flash based galleries that you could use or implement yourself.

Using photobucket or flickr or picasa allows you to use their APIs which make it very easy for you to implement non-flash based galleries.

For movies, no need to go to HTML5 Video yet because it's so new.

When I was designing this website, I completely forgot about supporting lower resolutions and made it in 1440 x 900. When I switched computers, it looked TERRIBLE. So then I looked at the website award guideline and an online survey about most common screen resolutions. In the end, I made it in 1024 X 768. Sorry :(

At first that was my plan. But then it didn't "fit" in with the rest of the website. The page made the website look like it was put together using mis-matched pieces. A friend suggested the flash gallery and well I believe flash to be an important part of modern browsers. I'm still thinking about the whole HTML5 integration but for now I've put that on hold.

I get what you're saying. That would happen if you used widgets from photobucket or flickr, etc. However, if you had enough time on your hands, you could just make your own gallery from their API's. Then you have your own html and supply your own CSS.

I would say that I don't have the capability of doing something like that but then that's what I thought before and while making this website.

Who knows, may be next year instead of like 95% student coded, we'll have a 100% student coded website! Now that's a pretty good goal for myself and baby blizzards. ;)
